I'm in the Metro-Detroit media area and the main Sparty hosts on their sports radio station have said it's apparently down to Smith and Elko.
Good to know, thanks for the insight.

....I've got an agent that's got a job...he best be doing his job...ha ha ha
While it is obvious he's looking for a better contract, it sounds like it will all come down to OSU matching and if they can or not. I wonder what his buyout is?

“Us against the world” is a hard sell when you don’t have unity. Smith would be smart to jump. My guess is his stock plummets if he stays another year. Tough situation.

Grain of salt and all that. But i have a connection in the UO AD. That person has connections with their counterpart throughout the Pac-12. They told me last week that Smith has had to quell unrest in the locker room over fighting between players openly discussing transfer portal/where they will play next year and guys loyal to Smith. How much that actually means when the lights come on and they strap on their helmets, who knows.

The short week might actually be to the benefit of OSU if that is true, since its one less day for the two factions in the locker room to interact with each other.

I'm not worried about lack of intensity, especially with NIL. So many of these guys are basically playing for a contract now. Not saying that team brotherhood can't exist -- it does in the pros and it certainly does in many college locker rooms -- but I doubt you'll see guys completely checking out when they know there may be opportunities with the portal and NIL. Most of these guys will never go to the NFL and getting a little cash right now might be the best they get from playing football.

OSU will bring it to the best of their ability... but we'll still win.

Without a conference home, I can't blame them. We'll see how much it impacts the game. I think the Civil War will truncate most off the field issues and distractions. I expect them to bring it.

The Pac-12 Championship is still on the line for them. Barely.

So OSU is having a civil war in the locker room as pre-Civil War game warmup. That's an interesting strategy Cotton, Let's see if it pays off (pretend I posted the accompanying gif.)

Yeah, that reads like OSU is not going to pay Market value for Smith which seems dumb for them as I think if they gave him a 9M/year contract he probably would stay and make that money back every year for the school from the success the team would have by going 10-2 as the floor in a Pac-Mtn the way Chris Peterson did at Boise.

What else do they think they should do with the PAC FB/BB Revenues they're getting to split with WSU, just pay off the stadium debt?

Right. The Beavers were out of the hunt for the CCG once they lost to UW, which was their third loss (WSU and Arizona being their other losses).

I don't read that statement the same way. To me, it reads like the AD and Smith are on common ground and are working toward keeping things stable at OSU.

I think Smith's own statement to Canzano should be significantly more worrisome to Oregon State fans, especially when compared with Lanning's blunt smackdown of A&M rumors just days earlier.

I would honestly be surprised if OSU allowed Smith to walk. Like Duck07 said, keeping him should be their absolute #1 priority. He's a great coach and him staying would probably keep a lot of players in Corvallis. If he goes then that entire roster is a flight risk.

I’m in the middle, I find nothing about that statement that indicates whether Smith will leave or not. I’m sure they’ve had plenty of discussions, but I do understand they aren’t able to offer the financial incentives to Smith to get even close to comparing to Michigan State and Texas A&M but I don’t feel that statement indicates that.

Oh ooops, you're both right that they are out of CCG. Well, maybe they should just roll over and die then.
