ya up and coming coaches...not has been coaches from has been programs...he was an up and coming coach from a mid-major who happened to be and Oregon alum...You made no point whatsoever
You seem so deadset on nobody but Kent being coach. He had his chances to continue coaching, but the last 2 years sealed his fate. You are already bashing Altman, even though he hasn't coached a game yet or even gotten a full year of recruiting at Oregon under his belt. He wasn't going to bring in a top-30 recruiting class with how little time and how few recruits were out there when he was hired. As far as his coaching skills, you don't win 20 games a year for about a decade, no matter which conference you are in, by being a bad coach.

IMO, Creighton's 11 consecutive 20 win seasons trump the 1 good season posted by EK at St Mary's, easily. Last year was the first time in 12 seasons an Altman team failed to reach at least 20 wins.
Do I expect instant success?
No. That would be unreasonable.
Arguing that he isn't capable of righting the Duck's foundering ship before a single game has been played
is ridiculous.
BTW, Mops reported on DT that the Ducks have made the latest cut in pursuit of 2011 PF Kyle Wiltjer... Final 4, according to his Twitter post.

Also, per Mops Twitter:
#scoop. UO G Malcolm Armstead may leaving program but there is talk of him actually staying at Oregon...more at DuckTerritory.com
If so, this is excellent news!

I really hope that Armstead stays. If he leaves, we are likely the worst team in the Pac 10. If he stays, I could see Oregon finishing 6th or 7th and actually making some progress this season.
Wiltjer would be a great get, but I still think he ends up out of state.
This
article states that he has not cut his list down to four.
A report Wednesday morning stated that 2011 NBE Top 100 prospect Kyle Wiltjer had trimmed his list to Gonzaga, California, Oregon and Kansas.
However, the 6-foot-9 forward denied the report.
“Not true,” Wiltjer told Jeff Borzello Wednesday afternoon from the Double Pump Best of the Summer Classic in California. “Won’t start narrowing down schools until after this tourney.”
He said he is considering Washington, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Connecticut, Kentucky, Wake Forest and Texas, in addition to the aforementioned four of Gonzaga, Cal, Oregon and Kansas.
“Everyone’s equal at this point,” Wiltjer said.

Well how about this litmus for Ernie, he hasn't been asked to coach anywhere else

Shows how much in demand he is. If he was such a good coach, he would have gotten a job with another school.

I'm not. That would be outlandish and baseless. We leave those kind of comments for you.
I said a couple posts up that we don't know if Altman will be the right man for the job or not. Which is a reasonable thing to say, as opposed to predicting doom and gloom based literally on nothing but a hunch.

I'm still trying to figure out what it is that qualifies Altman as a "has been."

The only thing I think of is him backing out of the Arkansas job, but I don't fault him for that since he wasn't fully told what had happened under the previous coaching staff and didn't know that the situation was worse than the AD had let on.

I supported EK getting the Oregon job and would love to have him still coaching us . . . because that would have meant that the last couple of years would have been amazingly successful (especially given the weak Pac-10) . . . but they weren't. It's hard to say he was an up and coming coach when we hired him according to his record:
1991-92 Saint Mary's 13-17 4-10 6th
1992-93 Saint Mary's 11-16 6-8 6th
1993-94 Saint Mary's 13-14 5-9 7th
1994-95 Saint Mary's 18-10 10-4 T-2nd
1995-96 Saint Mary's 12-15 5-9 7th
1996-97 Saint Mary's 23-8 10-4 T-1st NCAA 1st Round
Saint Mary's: 90-80 40-44
Also, as for Armstead, he had an entry on his FB . . . when someone asked how his year was, he said that it was okay, but that we'd be better next year. Hopefully he stays.

Has been as he hasn't been to the NCAA tourney since 06'-07' and hasn't been out of the first round since 02'-03'...And I didn't say I didn't want anyone but Kent...All i said is I didn't think we'd be able to get an upgrade and this isn't an upgrade...I would have welcomed lots of the coaches that were mentioned during the coaching search but like I said from the start I never thought we had a chance with any of them, which we didn't...I'm sorry but your just lying to yourself if you say this is what you wanted when you wanted Kent replaced...I understand where your coming from with wanting something better than what we had with Kent...I just don't understand where your coming from thinking we can get someone better which we obviously showed we can't

And Ernie Kent hasn't been to the tourney since 07'-08'. Altman's teams earned him a couple NIT performances since their last NCAA appearance, Kent's teams got him fired.

It is when they can't be reasoned with.
