Again, I'm not saying the kid is destined for greatness. I'm merely saying he showed a lot of promise as a freshman, and I think it's criminal that he's being judged on last year. The numbers don't lie, he had no idea identity last year, spotty playing time, and operated in a directionless offense. Missed a shot, he was benched. Hell, do you guys remember the Pac-10 finale in Mac last year? Sim buries a deep trey, then was benched. Comes back in over TWENTY GAME MINUTES LATER, buries another trey. Even when he was shooting well, he couldn't get minutes or attempts.

Gotta look at the competition through those games. Lots of those teams are not very good. Your opinion is just as valid as mine, and you bring up some good points. But I still think you're wrong.

Like you said, we really have to see how this plays out and come back to this discussion later.

Sure, North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, @ Utah, San Diego, St. Mary's, Kansas State... hell, Portland beat Washington that year and won a respectable 19 games... our out of conference slate that year was MUCH more difficult that it was this past season. This point is a fail.

2 for 5 against alabama, 3 for 7 against unc, 3 for 10 against texas, 1 for 9 against san diego, 2 for 7 against st marys.

And then you add in his stats against the other teams, 2 for 7 against n colorado, 2 for 8 against oakland, 3 for 8 against long beach.

Come on now, that's horrible. He had 2 good games. One against Utah where he scored 28, and one against Kstate where he scored 16. And then 1 OK games vs Portland.

Nothing impressive, nothing special, Sim frankly sucks. I like the guy, he was a very nice kid when we played together, but for real he just lacks that 'it' you need to be able to play college. If he starts hitting 3pointers, then sure he has some value, but hell I'd rather have someone like Drew Wiley who can actually shoot.

Edit: I had a snarky reply, but I'm no longer satisfied with it. Garrett Sim is quickly becoming our Vietnam, we should probably back up and just wait to see how he does this season. Good discussion, gents, I appreciate when people stick to their guns and offer satisfying counter-points. The worst thing a message board can become is a place where everyone sits around and agrees with one another. Cheers to the both of you.
