Ridnour wasn't known for defense, and Brooks isn't a very good defender himself. Both of them were pretty awesome PGs! Ridnour, becuase he was a great shooter and a great passer. Brooks because he was a really good shooter, and was incredible driving to the basket. A solid passer too.
Brooks was a very good defender when he was in college. I honestly don't recall Rid being a good or bad defender....... but Rid was a true pg with the size & athleticism to match...... Isn't Kingma expected to be a SG? Loyd & Barron both look more like a PG to me.

That is how great defense is played, as a team. Look at the Celtics with Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. Two weakest defenders in one on one, but in a good system they look like totally different defenders because everyone has bought in.
I'm sorry, but both of those guys have good size & athleticism for their positions....... and both are pretty good defenders. Pierce does as good of a job on Lebron as anyone else in the league.

you are failing to discern Paul Pierce and Ray Allen on defense prior to the formation of the Big Three. If you want to argue that then it would be pointless for me to refute anything further.

I don't know how he will adapt to college basketball, but I think that there is talent there and am willing to give it a chance to develop - not everyone can be an immediate impact player.
He looks like a 8th grader...... yes he has a quick shot, but that's the only positive I see. I certainly wouldn't want him bringing the ball up the court with that handle....
Have you personally watched a lot of his games to hate him? From previous posts I know that you also hate Sim (though I know there others with you in that regard), do you just hate white guards? Seriously, you only look at the negatives - a quick shot is an important asset to have for a guard, something that can negate not having the superior athleticism over the guy guarding him. He also uses his quick shot to rise up and find open teammates and demonstrated the ability to find open players off of the dribble as well. I know nothing about Washington High School basketball nor do I claim that Kingma is going to be All Conference (or even good for that matter, I simply don't know), but I am willing to give him a chance.

I'm not sure what your trying to get at...... but I don't think using them as an example is relevant in this topic...... Both of them have the size and athleticism to defend their position. Did they before they joined up? I duno... but neither team was relevant so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

Boom, you're coming in here looking like a straight up hater. What's your problem dude?

Kingma is a quality player. Program changer? No. Important role-player? Yes.

What I am trying to get at is that in a good defensive system, such as the one Doc Rivers (thibodeau's system, really) uses in Boston, that Ray and Paul were considered poor defenders before they got together. Put into a system that also included Rondo, Garnett and Perkins and you mask Ray and Paul's defensive limitations and suddenly they've drastically improved as defenders.

As far as "size and athleticism" you need to understand that in college you can get away with using shorties because there are over 300 D1 schools and very few of them have size and athleticism comparable to the nba. You don't need a 6'5" SG in college and can use a 6'1" SG and be fine.
