Baylis with his first reception. Almost broke the tackle. Appears to be much stronger than your average true freshman.
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

Pretty brutal drop from Christian French...

Well MM looked absolutely amazing, and BB looked....well, yeah....

MM has some incredible poise and he looks/acts like he has been running this offense for years. I think the comparisons to Dixon are pretty appropriate. He is incredibly poised, really smooth, and he plays with a certain "swagger."

BB looked super flustered. And the farther behind his team got, the worse he looked. (which is absolutely what we DON'T want) Say what you will about Thomas, but falling behind in a game didn't phase him. He started looking visibly pissed off, and his entire body language just said "defeated."

So before the postgame autopsies begin... Let's not get carried away. I can guarantee you this afternoon will not affect the competition much at all.

I agree. Aside from today, Bennet and Mariota have been neck and throughout the spring.

I think part of BB's frustration grew out of the non game "touch football" rules. No way some of those whistles stops would have actually tackled Bennett and that would get frustrating when your counter-part is looking good. Passing stats were actually more equal than you might expect too.

That being said, MM took the day.

MM looked really good but I don't think BB had to bad of a day. Only thing from BB I saw that I'm not to high on was his demeanor really changed once MM started rolling, but they have a whole fall camp yo battle it out and I'm chalking this up to just a bad day for Brian.

Great day for Mariota, dissapointed by Bennett just as I was after last spring game. I'm not as sold on him as others, but if he's our qb I hope he proves me wrong. Mariota impressed me big time today for being his first outing.

A couple of things I thought about todays game was it seemed the yellow team had a lot more play makers as far as offense goes. If you consider a couple things... first in terms of the yellow offense... they had DAT they also had Blackmon and Sumler and Vaughn....and yes Mariotta had a good game.

As far as the green team couple things I felt contributed to their lackluster performance.... First Barner did not touch the balll that often I think one or two carries.... and I am fine with that. As far as receivers The first pick I do not think was Bennetts fault... To me just as a casual onlooker it appeared to me the receiver did not really go after the ball that hard.. he sat back and waited for the ball giving the defense time to make the play. I would say thats more on the receiver than it is on Bennett as the receivers can not just sit back and wait for ball to get there they have to play the ball as much as the defense does. The second one I would like to see again as might concur it was Bennetts fault but I also thought maybe just maybe the receiver did not turn. I only got one look at it and did not see the replay. The third thing I would say in the green teams offense it seemed like they were seeing what the walkon RB would do.

I am by no means a coach but just my thoughts... I think the qb competition is still very close and do not think as good as Mariotta played that am totally sold on him being the starter I think if he ends up winning the competition we will be in good hands though.

If anyone catches when it is showing later in the week could you please pass the word along? I missed the game and want to ask my bro to tape it for me. TIA

You must be one huge Bennett fan to somehow turn those interceptions into the receiver's faults. Those picks were 100% on BB.

Oregonfan4life before you go jumping on me because of my evaluation couple things yoou should know.. First off.. and I should not even have to say this but since you seem to be wanting to go there I will.... I am not some big Bennett fan as you claim which is ludicrous based on one day.... I merely said the receiver has to go after the ball as fast as Divison one defenses are if you sit back and wait for the ball to come to you instead of going and getting the ball then interceptions can and will happen. A good corner back will go after the ball...

The one thing I care most about when it comes to Oregon is who has the moxy to give Oregon the best chance to win.... I will gladly support 150% whoever the coaches think gives us the best chance... and unlike some I will not base that after one spring scrimmage when Bennett did not have the luxury of some of out best offensive players If that makes me a Bennett fan then I must be guilty but I will support the team whether it is Mariotta or Bennett because that is who the coaches believe gives us the best chance.
