We need to be able to close and make sure when those schools come wanting hem to play for them we keep on them to stay committed to Oregon. Last year we thought we had a bunch locked up but they went elsewhere. We have to be proactive and on these guys constantly.

Considering the way Taggart left, and trying to snake our commis the day after leaving, I think our staff kicked ass in closing. They had to spend a ton of time trying to keep commitments instead of spending time getting uncommitted kids to go with Oregon. On top of that, our bowl game hit on the last recruiting weekend before the dead period. Taggart left the week before. So, the staff, without knowing is they were going to still be employed for a few days had to prep for the game, recruit kids to a school with no head coach and then go into a dead period. Once the dead period ended and we had most of the staff locked in, Taggart was sniffing around poaching kids to go to FSU. On top of all of this, coaches from other programs were negative recruiting Oregon and the new staff.
Please stop with the Oregon didn’t close argument. It’s not a good look for the person taking the position.

Due to extenuating circumstances the past couple years with coaching changes, it's hard to say the coaches can't close.

Coaches in helfrich era couldn't close.
It's unfair to pin that label on Cristobal. He and his staff slayed last year at the end!

Based on AJ Jacobson's hints and now this tweet, it looks like Oregon should be on commit watch tomorrow for Lance Wilhoite. Should they get him, they'd be up to #3 on both Rivals and 247 Sports' Team Rankings:

Absolutely huge. Cristobal is cleaning up. Possible to add both Wilhoite and Pittman?

Yes but it'd potentially mean missing out on either Ford or McCoy, although I think they'd make room for those two.

Per Rivals, this class is up to #3, with average star rating looking like #6.

I believe they had around an 89 average on 247, which is quite lower than Oregon's near 92 average now.

Lyerla.
USC wouldn't take him, he was all on drugs at UCLA and got booted. UO was about his only option.
We've bested SC a ton though for recruits, just people dont like to remember the good, only the bad. The wanted Graham and called him until the last day, tried getting Stephen's, in fact a ton of DBs just the last 5 years. They called Jake Rodriguez even after he was enrolled at UO early. Lots and lots of guys.
