Nope, not being too harsh. Trolling is called trolling for a reason. Definitely reflects a certain failing of character. Not that it can't be overcome in an 18 year old kid, but that behavior is not normative or worthy of respect. It's disingenuous and attention-seeking. A more forthright recruitment wherein a kid either accepts or declines the scholarship offer is preferable.OregonFan4Life wrote:Who knows if it’s legit, at this point his trolling is getting annoying. And now there is this... After posting a pic of him in a Georgia jersey.
Sounds like they are both having fun teasing everyone. Should make for a fun Jan 4th.

I'm sure you wouldn't have been susceptible to behavior like this when you were 18. I don't think many people are equipped to handle this level of attention with grace when they are 18. Cut the kid some slack.Phalanx wrote:Nope, not being too harsh. Trolling is called trolling for a reason. Definitely reflects a certain failing of character. I could care less if this entire board thinks it's okay to act this way, it still isn't. I can't say what I would have done at 18 in the same situation, since I was never in that situation, but I would hope I would act with more humility and respectfulness. Most 18-year olds don't even act this way: can you imagine if every single recruit played stupid games like this? Thankfully, most can see the folly in it. If someone wants to be known as a fool publicly, that is their own decision, but to say it doesn't reflect on their character is false.karlhungis wrote:I'm sure you wouldn't have been susceptible to behavior like this when you were 18. Lol. The kid hasn’t even done anything. He wore a shirt to school. You have no idea whether that’s a troll. Just because fans are choosing to dissect his every movement on Twitter doesn’t mean he’s trolling. He’s a kid that agreed with organizers of the All-American game to announce there, so he hasn’t announced yet. That’s about the extent of what he’s done to “troll.” Maybe he retweeted 1 or 2 things about Oregon just so that his announcement wouldn’t be pointless, as it would be if everyone already knew he was going to Georgia. Who cares? To call out his character because of a retweet or 2 is silly. Let the kid have his moment.Phalanx wrote:I could care less if this entire board thinks it's okay to act this way, it still isn't. Well by golly I think you should reach out to him and let him know his services at Oregon are no longer needed. He’s a disgrace to his family’s name. Straight to last chance U for you young man. If I was 17 years old and thousands of adults cared where I was going to college and tried to read the tea leaves based on my shirt choice I’d be laughing so hard. Especially if I had already signed on.

Well, I certainly agree that it grows their brand. It's really just a question of what one wants to be known for. Another great way to grow one's brand is to play well on the field and show great character off of it. Like Joey, or Marcus. Jerry Rice was one of my heroes growing up. He didn't have to troll people. He just scored touchdowns and handed the ball to the ref.wepto wrote:

Anyway, there is no point in arguing with someone who clearly doesn't have the same values. Most folks can recognize that Marcus was raised by good parents because of his respectful behavior, and Marcus was a better player than Ringo can ever hope to be. I would hope that coach Cristobal would influence the young men under his charge to be more like Marcus. Beyond this, I can only worry about the young people under my own charge, and hopefully I will raise kids who are respectful, even when others around them are not.
P.S. I don't know any of these kids in other contexts, and maybe they only do this kind of stuff on the internet, etc. I did hear that one kid punched his coach, which may be another manifestation of the indulged athlete. I am only talking about this behavior, not the whole character of the kids, of which I am ignorant.

I think it’s hilarious, the power that 17 year olds decisions hold over some people. Let them troll, it’s meaningless in the scope of things and doesn’t reflect at all on whether they’re “good” people or not. They realize the power they have and are having fun with it.
If they are Ducks, great!
If they’re not, oh well!
F*cks sake, there’s way more important things in life to get annoyed at.

Is everyone done bitching and moaning about what a recruit does on social media? Enjoy the holidays and the buildup to the Rose Bowl instead of getting so worked up over a recruit's posts.

Nick Harris made a CB for Ringo. He’s been 100% on all of his predictions this year. Locked and I can’t see it though.
