As great as JTT is he’ll be a True Freshman this year that missed spring camp, I doubt he’ll be a star/impact player by the second game of his collegiate career, so while it’d suck to lose out on JTT to tOSU it will have very little to no impact on the game this year, no matter who he chooses. Regardless of JTT’s school choice I see Oregon losing by a score of something like 24-38.

I was thinking about the same thing this morning. He's missing workouts and practices while the rest of his class has already started, many of them starting back in January. He's behind and likely is much more of a year 2 impact guy. I'm actually a little anxious that he'll be a distraction when he's not seeing the field a bunch this fall.

We've missed on every top interior DL recruit we've been after lol. Big Joe recruiting and coaching abilities are still a giant question mark in my head.

Props to CMC for giving it his all to bring in some of these guys and coordinating JTT's visit with the Oregon fundraiser that some of the current NFL stars took part in.

RE: Big Joe. I’ve been beating this drum for a while, but beyond helping recruit non-DL Polynesian players I don’t know know what Big Joe has done to merit being the second highest paid defensive line coach in the country.

His recruiting has been subpar. Under Cristobal there has been a statistical improvement in recruiting every position group except for DL. I know it’s difficult to find big bodies on the West Coast but somehow Utah, Washington, USC, etc have done it and we used to under previous regimes. Siaki Ika is a prime example. They clearly wanted him at least coming out of high school. I don’t care what the recruiting ranking is if the guys perform but when the brightest young DL like Dorlus and Kristian Williams weren’t recruited by the DL coach and his recruits are down on the depth chart it’s concerning.

With JTT this is a golden opportunity. A PNW kid happens to be the top recruit at his position group, his
dad and Big Joe are from the same tiny speck of land, and it’s at a position where Oregon can lay claim to great draft and/or pro success over the last two decades.

If Salave’a could pull this off I’d be ecstatic, and honestly - shocked.

Yes, looks like PoPo is a big Joe guy. Sure hope you are right and that he will shine this year. That would be awesome.

@GDT Those are my exact thoughts. I was thinking about this in my head a little and having big Joe as DL coach on paper looks like it should work. Washington had a good DL a few years ago and it was made of poly guys. Utah's DL is always poly guys. I'd say about half of USC's impact DL are also poly guys. On this side of the Mississippi, that's just kind of how it goes. However, things unfortunately haven't really panned out as we probably would have hoped on the recruiting trail. Fingers crossed for JTT.

I love Popo, he’s one of my picks for breakout season. I’ve preferred him over Fat Mac the last two seasons, because of his ability to get into the backfield.

He was originally a Helfrich/Hoke commit that stayed committed after they were fired. Big Joe was hired in mid January 2017, Popo committed in November 2016 - I’ll give partial credit for not losing him.

Popo wasn't highly regarded as a defensive recruit. Many in the scouting world envisioned that he would wind up playing offensive guard in college. He's developed really well.

On a sidenote, the Buckeye fans are a weird group. They’re commenting on multiple sites/forums I’ve seen talking such bitter smack about Oregon when Oregon fans aren’t talking smack at all. We get it, Oregon is 0/9 against them, they smashed Oregon in the natty and have better recruiting classes and will probably get JTT, why do they feel the need to talk smack to Oregon fans?

tOSU are some of the worst fans on social media because they're arrogant and believe they can talk crap to anyone and everyone.

Just fwiw, Travis whatever his name is, who used to be right in all his info here. Just said on scoopduck he is 9 out of 10 confident both are ducks.
