Traveling could be it, but we're recruiting fine in other sports. In fact in football, you could argue Oregon has been the best in the transfer portal since NIL.

Was reading an article that said a high-level starting SG or SF will cost a school between $800K and $2 million. That might be why Oregon hasn't been tied to many so far as they got Shelstad, Evans, and likely Bittle's deal worked out.

Have to think Simpkins is their starting SG unless they bring someone else in or Jamari Phillips takes a big jump. Wonder if they go after Simpkins' twin brother, TJ, who's in the portal as well after averaging 14 ppg last year at Elon.

Matt said TJ is looking to go in a different direction than TK.

So still need a backup PG and a PF/C that can rotate with Evans/Bittle off the bench.

This kid being a starter next season will mean the rest of this offseason was an abject failure.

In his best season at Elon, he would have been the 9th best shooter on last season's Oregon team. And Oregon was not a team that shot particularly well last season. And he shot these percentages while playing against JV teams at Elon. I'll be SHOCKED if he does anything more than replace Moss at the end of the rotation. They have almost identical statistical profiles, coming out of similarly weak competition. And if we're being honest, Moss had no business playing basketball in a power conference.

If there isn't some MUCH higher end talent coming to Oregon, we could end up wasting what should be a pretty special year (if Bittle ends up coming back, as expected). We need at least a couple shooters. I'm hopeful that Lindsay can be one of those guys, but transfers like this one are pretty damn discouraging.

This is slightly misleading. His FG% numbers are poor. But his 3-point shooting numbers at 36.7% last season would have been tied with Brandon Angel for 3rd best on the team (Behind 1st Barthelemy at 41.4% and Shelstad 37.9%).

So you could argue he'd be the best shooter on the team next year alongside Shelstad.

Also Barthelemy's first three seasons (2 at Colorado, 1 at Oregon), he shot lower FG% and 3PT% every year than Simpkins did last season. I guess Barthelemy would have been labeled not valuable and we would have overlooked him.

I do think adding another shoot is valuable for sure though. Not disagreeing.

But I do think TK has potential to become a 38%+ 3PT shooter, and Phillips shot 40% from 3s in High School and Dez Lindsay shot 42% from 3s in JC.

So maybe if these guys pan out, it won't be so bad.

Sheesh, Tajuan Porter was such a good shooter when he was alive, but now his ghost is the harbinger of doom. Did he have any sons before he died? Maybe Dana could recruit them.

Maybe if his progeny are significantly taller and less selfish...

Letting Oregon Basketball become the Tajuan Porter show for 4 years set the program back sooooo far. The irony here is that Tajuan Porter was the harbinger of doom for Ernie Kent's tenure at Oregon.

Tajuan Porter went through what a lot of college PG’s go through and it’s almost similar to Shelstad. Porter was a great shooter but was forced to be a PG after Brooks graduated and he never was a true or good PG, being forced to play out of his true position hurt himself and the team.

Obviously Shelstad is better but I feel like he isn’t a true PG yet which was perhaps the biggest reason Oregon didn’t advance beyond the second round. The amount of shot clock violations Oregon had or last second bad shots to avoid a shot clock violation showed Oregon’s need for a true PG.

IMO the key to going far in the tourney is having a mature and experience true PG and those are hard to find in college so a lot of teams just put their shortest/fastest guard in that position only to watch them fall short.

Gators didn't need a true PG.

With Goodman in and Bittle not a sure thing to return, Oregon has to still be looking at a starting center in the portal.

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't see any way that Bittle gets drafted. He just lacks the athleticism necessary in the NBA. In the NCAA, he benefits from being able to sit in the key defensively and just be there to contest layups. In the NBA, he would absolutely be abused on pick and rolls. Maybe I'm wrong, as I'm far from a scout, but that's how I see it. Maybe the NBA values his offensive skillset more than I suspect.

I;m with you, his athleticism is a drawback here, despite the blocked shots, other teams feasted at the rim against the Ducks, and of course few centers do, but Jokic can shoot the 3, Bittle can't.
