I really hope that Jarion Henry was watching. I don't know why any recruit would want to play for Kevin O'Neill.

Great win for this team!
As for the comments on PK, Kilkenny can hire I'll give him that, but he sucks at getting UO a good network deal. Here's a clue if half the state doesn't have access to the channel, don't sign the deal.

With no scholarships open, Oregon is probably only lightly recruiting him.

I thought we still had one more, or was that based on the German moving on?

The German will NOT be here next season. Call it a hunch, based on the fact that he can't do anything.

Yes, because UO has made it a habit of stripping scholarships of athletes who under perform, right? He won't leave because Altman stripes him of a scholie, the only reason he would leave is because he wants to. Other than that he will be here, bank on it. Next year we will still have the same problem we have this year, we will be undersized and Martin has height. Honestly I can't remember UO ever taking away a kids scholarship who isn't a problem or who has grade issues.

I've covered this before. I made the same argument you just made when someone a couple weeks ago said Altman may choose to cut Teondre loose, but I specifically cited Seifert as the exception because I've been told m\by multiple sources close the program that Altman and Seifert essentially set up a one-year try out due to our lack of size. Most kids sign with a school under the assumption that they're going to be around for the duration, but I've been told Seifert's situation was set up different from the get-go. He essentially got a free year of schooling and travel in a foreign country just to sit on a bench during games.

yea, all scholarships are for 1 year and have to be renewed and since the school is not allowed to release any other information relating to the player. we've got no clue what DA said to Seifert but I wouldn't be shocked the slightest if he told him it was likely that he'd only get 1 year pending improvement on his part.

All scholarships are conditional and though it is less than ideal to not renew a scholarship I wouldn't be surprised if Seiferth is encouraged to find a situation where he is a better fit. I don't view the school (or Altman) just simply yanking his scholarship but it would not be shocking if an announcement is made after the season that he is leaving school as a mutual decision between Seiferth and Oregon for Seiferth to pursue better opportunities. In such a situation it would even be likely for the coaches to campaign for other schools to give him a chance (assuming that Seiferth still wants to entertain the prospect of college basketball and not returning to Germany to be nearer to family). Again, I don't expect the school/coaching staff to purely run him off of the team, but there is a certain amount of turnover among college basketball rosters, especially at the beginning of a coaches tenure when chances were taken (such as offering a player with height an open scholarship right before the season), and it isn't absurd to think that he might not return next year. After all, I'm sure that Seiferth isn't exactly enthralled with the amount of playing time he has received on a team that starts a 6ft 6in "center" with virtually no depth at said position - I imagine that Seiferth can be an impartial judge of the situation and realize that he might currently be out of his league.
All of this is pure speculation, but I guess I just wouldn't be so sure that he would return next year and that, if so, I think it would likely be more of a mutual departure than a hostile rejection. That said, maybe the coaches are enamored with what they see and wished they would have just redshirted him this season and believe that he can be a contributor after such a season next year, but I'm not sure that they really have that luxury with the post position. The departure of Dunnigan really left this team in a bind when it comes to finding a post player that can immediately contribute, something that is relatively rare in major college basketball.

Altman had said that the ideal situation for Seiferth would have been to redshirt and then play him next season, but the ideal wasn't in the cards. With him not playing much, it would seem obvious that he would go back to Europe. Another possibility could be that he wants to play college basketball and is willing to sit while he improves his game.

I know scholarships are only for a year, but it's not in the best interest in the long run of a school or coach to not allow kids who are a good student and citizen to fulfill his 4 years. If a coach only plans on being here for a few years than yeah run kids off that aren't helping, but if he's in it for the long hall coaches won't generally run kids off. Anyways, I know Seiferth is from Germany so it won't effect how HS coaches view our staff, but if you don't think HS and AAU coaches don't pay attention to how the coaches treat the players star or 12th man on the bench your fooling yourself.

That said, it is my understanding that the two came to a mutually agreed upon decision before the scholarship was offered to give it a one-year try. It was win-win for both sides. That's quite a bit different than recruiting a kid out of HS, when the assumption is that the kid will be with you for 4 years.
Romar got in trouble with pulling scholarships a few years ago because the kid went public and cried foul. Public opinion swayed to the kid's side. This is not the same situation.
