Why are we discussing the Blazer's FA activity now on the draft thread? This should probably be on the Blazers thread now.

there's merit to everything you're saying. i just fall into the same belief that several nba insiders hold that thinks new orleans is putting on a smokescreen for potential suitors to keep the price down on gordon. near max money is a lot for a player who's somewhat redundant with austin rivers around now, to say nothing of the fact that gordon has expressed his unhappiness with the organization and wants out. it's the tom benson era now, and gordon will be an extremely expensive holdover from the previous regime.

of course, new orleans could choose to make good on their word and keep gordon no matter the cost. it's just far from a sure thing. expensive, disgruntled players who have a similar skill set to your sparkling new draft pick may not fit into future plans. there's actually been quite a bit of buzz between the gordon/pacer connection, which would obvious suit me well considering i'm also a big pacer fan.

Portland has reiterated that they will match any offer sheet that Gordon receives. Don't believe that he's a max player, but he'll likely get a max offer.

Expecting Indy (Hibbert) and Portland (Batum) to match on their restricted free agents. Teams just don't let young, productive players who don't have any baggage go in restricted free agency.

I'm surprised by all the the love for Osik. He only averaged 3-4 PPG and 5-6 RPG last year. I'm glad the Blazers won't have a chance to get in on him.

I agree that the Pacers will probably retain Hibbert, which means we will probably have to settle for a lower tier center and wait for another year.

I'm not convinced that the Blazers will match the Batum offer. That is a lot of money being thrown his way for what he has produced thus far. They may have to let him walk.

You can't just look at the averages. He did that in 15 MPG. He's one of the better rebounding centers in the NBA and is a near-elite defender. He's also never missed a game in his career. $8 million for a center who could potentially average 8 points/11 rebounds is pretty solid.

Sounds like Portland may have put a poison pill in Hibbert's offer sheet (i.e. heavily backloaded) that could make it less likely that Indiana will match. I think they still will, but it will definitely give the Pacers something to think about, as they would have less flexibility this summer than they had originally thought they would.

Also think the Blazers match on Batum. Paul Allen is loaded.

Sources: Chris Kaman visits with Pacers tomorrow. Solid, affordable alternative to suddenly über-pricy Roy Hibbert. Could be good news if Indiana is looking elsewhere. I don't think we would get Eric Gordon, as I think N.O. will match.

Only way to do a sign-and-trade is if Batum doesn't sign an offer sheet and agrees to a trade to the Hornets or any other team.

Ya, my guess is that would be more likely to happen near the trade deadline. They would probably shop him around first.

But I do think a Rivers/Batum/Davis nucleus would be pretty nice. We could also throw in Nolan Smith.
