Same. The news that he postponed his signing was pretty "meh" for me.

Losing Flowe to SC will hurt but Sewell could easily end up the better player. Not that I wouldn't love to have both.

Sewell will end up being better and that's partially cause he went to Oregon. USC is not a destination for a player to improve unless they play WR. Their defense is a complete mess. Sewell will be like Wright and Flowe will be like Steele if Flowe ends up at USC.

I have seen a few comments like that. I think he may need a man like Cristobal in his life. I would take him in a heart beat. If he becomes an issue and can’t correct his behavior then we can part ways.
At what collateral damage?

With red flags galore, you need to consider that you're bringing people into a community. In this day and age, we need to recognize that.

I suppose I would need proof of what he has done before I can answer that question. I heard he threw punches after a game. What else?

Punched a coach.

Now add booze and partying and pretty girls.

I'm sure that will be a healthy environment to mature in....

Well if that’s it then I stand by my statement. Making the leap from that to him creating collateral damage in our community is a huge leap in my opinion. I happen to work in this community and see much worse than that almost daily.

Here is what I've gotten from all the predictions the last few days:

We are getting nobody.

We are getting everybody.

Think I will just take what we get tomorrow and later and enjoy that.

You know what only recruiting choir boys from middle class two parent households get you? Going 4-5 in conference.

Washington is a kid who had to sleep hungry, on floors with no bedding. Coming home to eviction notices. Doesn't excuse punching a coach, but a far cry from Baylor. We don't know the kid like the coaches who get his transcripts, talk to his coaches, meet him.

Look at the Miami teams Cristobal played on. Look at some of his past recruits and players he coached. If Cristobal thinks this kid is worth it for the program I'll trust that. I don't think Mario would risk headaches if he didn't think this is a kid that was worth it, or that he could thrive in the right environment.

Helfrich probably wouldn't have offered this kid. Yet his 100 point inspection brought in Tristan Wallace, Darrian Franklin, Austin Maloata.

Anyway, Washington is really good: https://www.hudl.com/profile/5235844/Darnell-Washington how often do you find a 6'7" 260 pound guy who can boogie like that?

I mostly agree with you, and really hope we get him. Like you said he is a rare breed of size and speed. The people on here that don’t want him are 100 percent entitled to their opinions and it seems like they have some valid concerns. However when it come to offering the guy and getting him to Oregon none of our opinions matter, the only opinion that really counts is Cristobals

I'd still take the on field contributions of: Cliff and Colt. Similarly ranked prospects with some prior issues that unfortunately continued. Maybe I'm too lenient.

Having concerns about a recruit is very understandable. This is a university, not a professional sports franchise.

We've seen bad publicity with guys like Jalen Hall. We've seen our players endanger the lives of others or their own with reckless behavior.

But I've been a big believer in second chances, especially when the coaches know who can improve. Look at Kiko Alonso. He had a DUI, enough to get fired from a lot of jobs. He broke into a house while drunk. Chip kept him. Alonso did his community service and rehab, got a college education, and became a millionaire NFL star. How might his life turned out differently if he was kicked off the team? Maybe he would have the same success, maybe he would have died while driving drunk.

Mike Bellotti took plenty of chances. Onterrio Smith worked out well enough for a while. Herman Ho-Ching didn't. Let's not even mention Richie Incognito. It's the nature of the recruiting game.
