Two curious offers were made yesterday - Two 2024 edges got offers. One went to JUCO Antonio Alfano (was the #1 overall player in 2019 class before bouncing around Alabama and Colorado and now JUCO), and the other to Tristan Waiamau-Galindo out of Hawai'i.

I say "curious" because the Ducks have a big class and these players could/likely overlap with some other commits and true freshmen, so it doesn't seem like an area of need with limited scholarships available. I'm sort of on the lookout for retirements and decommits, but it could just be that they think more depth is needed.

I did see the news about the kid from Hawaii, but assumed that was some sort of walk-on offer. Even after searching this morning for anything about Ducks and Alfano, I'm not seeing it.
Oops, NVM, now I see it. That is a head scratcher and makes me wonder the same.

Regarding Alfano, his timeline of offers shows 7 schools offering him yesterday.

Seems like a strange coincidence that all of those offers would happen on the exact same day, unless there is some sort of significance regarding that date and offering JC players. If not, it might just be that 247 became aware of these (old?) offers yesterday and input them into the database, rather than this necessarily being a new offer from the Ducks. I'm looking at the 24 players already committed and then reading this thread and wondering how the heck all these players have spots. The scholarship limit is still 85, right? Sheesh.

I wonder if the in-state guys will be asked to settle for NIL-only or something.

We have 2 coaches kids on scholarship - literally the dumbest thing ever beyond a need for "pride."

It seems better to cast a wide net and be able to turn away players, if necessary, than to be stuck looking at fall back options if recruits flip or choose another school.

Some teams have been doing that for years.

I asked the same question. I think there may be some departures beyond what outsiders (us) know.

This staff was bang on last cycle. I expect the same this year.
