Malcolm Armstead out?

I don't do Twitter. But those that do say he's transferring.
Not much of a loss, and we can finally get people to stop saying, 'Where are the scholarships going to come from?????" Christ, that was annoying.

"Armstead has now confirmed the news via twitter."
"Senior point guard Malcolm Armstead has asked for his release from the Oregon men's basketball team sources tell DuckTerritory.com."
Guess that answers where the scholarship for Emory is coming from, eh?

Kind of random, no?

It really doesn't make a lot of sense, from here... This will be the 3rd institution Armstead attends. Does he have a redshirt available?

might be a blessing in disguise. It would have been hard to find significant minutes for three legit PGs next year. The team rotation might be better off with just just two (Loyd and Barron)

Honestly...not a big loss (other than for depth)
Last year Armstead was awesome. This year, he regressed significantly to the point where he was one of the worst players on the team for much of the year. Yes he gets a ton of steals, but his man to man defense stunk this year. He had a few monster games where he carried the team, but he was wildly inconsistent. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up. I'm glad that Teondre isn't the one transferring.
The forgotten man in all of this is Devoe Joseph. Joseph is a pure shooter, but he has pretty good playmaking skills. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some minutes at the point.
Loyd obviously struggled with his shot, but he displayed some impressive playmaking skills. Despite his small stature, he is a good team defender.
The prospect of Bruce Barron now being a contributor is pretty exciting. I know that he is somewhat raw, but I love the idea of a big, physical point guard.

I think it sort of is but maybe kind of expected since Loyd basically started over Armstead for most of the season. Really glad it's not someone like JJ or Teondre, but it could also mean that Seiferth could be staying if Altman isn't planning to bring anyone else in.

Eh, if the "human victory cigar" stays, and it doesn't cause us to miss out on someone else, I'm alright with i for purely sentimental reasonst. If he learns to party down at Taylor's he can be like this team's version of Ian Crosswhite -- minus the productivity.

The only HS players Oregon that has any real shot (according to Scout, which means very outdated news) at are DeAndre Daniels and Jarion Henry, but those two seem to be leaning elsewhere.

Next year is likely another throw away season... I would prefer we start developing the young guys.

I'm not sure exactly what Armstead is gaining by doing this, but whatever. I actually thought he played better after he was injured early in the season. I wonder if Altman has known about this for awhile.

Kinda surprised by the lack of concern about Armstead leaving. I know he wasn't very consistent this year, but he is our best perimeter defender, and he is by far our best passer. And honestly, when he was playing good, he was one of the best PGs in the Pac-10. Unfortunately, we only saw him play his great basketball about a quarter of the time.
Pretty random for sure. I think we'll be OK, but it still sucks to lose a potential senior.
EDIT: Sorry for the typos, I haven't been getting even close to enough sleep lately.
