According to Biggins on Espn we are leading for him. How high on the wishlist is he? It also mentions a safety named Dion Bailey who doesn't have a offer but wants to camp with us. He led the state with 9 picks and had 72 tackles.

As a 2008 junior, McConico ran for 1,234 yards on only 62 carries (19.9 ypc) and scored 14 touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 115 yards (57.5 ypc) and scored on both of them.

WoW, those are some huge averages. I wonder how high the coaches are on him, anyone know?

At 6'1, he's a tall back, which means he could be a receiving threat. But he doesn't look super bulky. Solid offer list tho

at 6'1 you've got to think he has a frame to put some weight on. With a good year's work he could probably get up to 215-220. with stats like his you can't doubt his speed. He looks like he'll be a big time back this year.

McConico needs to get a little more dedicated in the weightroom if he wants to bulk up. He has admitted that he hasn't really hit the weights much so far.

i would redshirt him.

My only question is.. if the guy is averaging 19 yards a carry... why did he coach only give him the ball 62 times? Just doesn't make sense to me

The Ducks are also doing well with Compton (Calif.) running back James McConico. The Ducks were one of the first to offer the athlete and are sitting at the top of his board at this time.

McConico is a true home run hitter and averaged 19 yards a carry last season. He earned 2nd team all-state underclass honors and is a national recruit with schools from all over talking with him.

"My offers are from Oregon, Colorado, San Jose State, Arizona State, Nebraska, Washington and Arizona," McConico said. "Oregon is my top school and I plan to camp with them in the summer.

"I'm also high on Colorado and will definitely visit there. USC is high on my list and the school I grew up rooting for. ASU and UCLA are the others in my top five.

"I want to camp with Oregon, USC and UCLA and will also be attending the Nike Camp in April. I'm looking for a good program that has a chance to win and a place where I'm comfortable with the coaching staff."

He has an early offer from the Ducks, so that pretty much speaks for itself in terms of how high the coaches are on him.

The biggest problem with McConico is academics. He needs to start taking care of business in the classroom if he wants to qualify.

Kid's bench/squat is unimpressive. So he can use some workouts.
HUGE YPC, true home run threat. Limited number of touches last year were due to him getting injured and playing only 4.5 games.
Cliff Harris all over again with grades. He's not out by he he has some work to do, which is why his recruitment is pretty light right now. He's focusing on academics. This kid would be unreal in our offense IMO.

Watch his video if you can, he has great blocking(just like us) and does well to find the seam and explode.

James McConico is a guy who will be much like Cliff Harris was last year but maybe not so harsh. He has grade issues right now and some major programs are waiting on seeing if he can get over them or not. We have offered in hopes that if he does get into school he will look at us hard due to the fact we stuck by him early, which right now is looking like he has noticed.

The reason he got 62 carries was because of a season ending injury that forced him out very early. What is still impressive over his stats is the fact that he played maybe one full league game and still was named to the All League 2nd team I believe. Hes that good.

He needs to bulk up when he gets to school and take the weight room serious as well on a regular basis but all in all he'd be a huge pick up.

If Bryce Brown commits, and considering we already have Ethan Grant signed up for '10, do you think we still take another back for the '10 class? With LaMichael James we would already have 3 backs who will be within 1 year of eligibility. I highly doubt a guy like Malcom Jones or McConico would be interested in redshirting.
