LSU to brew, sell own beer (7/20)

BATON ROUGE (AP) — LSU plans to brew and sell its own beer, with release planned during the fall football season.

A spokesman for the university, Ernie Ballard, says the logos and can designs are being finalized with an eye toward putting the beer on store shelves in September or October.

Ballard says local Baton Rouge-based Tin Roof Brewing Co. is partnering with LSU to produce the beer, which will be distributed by Mockler Beverage.

No word yet on a name for the beer — or a list of the types of beers that will be offered. Ballard says the project was developed through LSU’s food science department, with classes involved in creating the recipe.

With the amount of microbreweries in Oregon, I'd thought the UO would have one too.

Any school that has a big following that tailgates are fools for not doing it, with that said I don’t know of any other teams that do. Mark my words…90% of ice chest on gameday after this release will be full of purple and gold cans.

This is bad ass.

I cannot imagine UO would go for something like that as many would take issue with promoting "drinking". I know.......but remember the lady that got her nose bent out of shape over the big O sign on Autzen? This would be much worse.

I think it's an awesome idea. They license everything else under the moon, why not beer? A seasonal brew only available in the Fall/Winter. Hell, Ninkasi or Steelhead should be allowed to give it a go.

I don't think OU has a fermentation program.

Bud Light sells Green and Yellow cans up here during football season. Ive seen them tailgating... too bad BL is such piss because they're kinda cool....

I'd totally go with an official UO beer for my tailgates... I still have a few of these from the 1995 RB...

Which is why purple and gold cans are not filling 90% of the ice chests on game day now

I don't know if this would be accepted here.....Everyone here complains about everything: building a baseball stadium, tearing down a basketball stadium, putting up an O and on and on over the most petty things so you know that people(canzano) would form some group to bash on Oregon if they did this..

Everyone knows and accepts that tailgating at LSU is top notch so it's much more accepted there. Also people in the bayou don't care about others people business like we tend to do in the NW

A couple years back, Oregon decided to put a big Oregon O logo on the south side of Autzen. After they put it up, a UO professor, who lived in an area that overlooks most of the area with university, complained about it by saying it ruined her view. She was trying to get it removed by claiming the university didn't get a permit for it; she eventually dropped the case after getting harassed by fans and students even though the city would have ruled against her anyways.
