Embarrassing not being invited to the prom afterall...

The term embarrassing seems inadequate to describe what happened to A&M. What a strange twist to this saga, what happens next?

edit. Just looked at the Scout A&M board, lots of stuff about this denial is only process, that the SEC will wait to extend an offer until A&M officially leaves the Big 12. One example http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=187&f=2639&t=7776038

Looks like nothing will happen for at least another season but I think we'll see these so called "Super Conferences" in the near future.

I’m SHOCKED…every station done here was approaching this as a “we know A&M but who else will join.” Just when I was getting pumped about it.

I'm wondering if they were working on a larger deal involving more teams that fell apart.

The SEC is declining at this time, which means it could happen at a different time (maybe in about a month or after the season) just not this week. The SEC wants to take their time to avoid potential problems like the Big XII sueing them. They also need a 14th team, so they would need to decide which team works. Do they go Missouri? maybe. None of the SEC teams want to add an in state team, ex. Florida doesn't want Florida St. The SEC wants to figure all of this out before they jump.

Yeah...as my staff and I surrounded the coffee pot this morning this is what we came up with. I guess I feel into all the talk and got excited. I’m still certain that it will happen but they just want to get their ducks in a row.

Oregon is NOT joining to the SEC!

From what I've heard, the main reason they said no to TAMU is that the aggies are still bound by their contract to the Big XII. The SEC doesn't want to be in a position to get sued for messing with that contract so they've told TAMU to get out of it before we can make a deal.

I still can't tell if he's the smartest or most inept conference commissioner around. On one hand, he's been able to keep most of the Big 12 together under enormous pressure from other conferences. But on the other, he has yet to solve the Big 12's inequality that is leading to other conferences sniffing around to poach teams away.

But that is also, apparently, what the meeting today was called to discuss. Mike Slive will be in attendance and rumor has it that TAMU and the BigXII will come to an agreement about all of this.

Even if they get A&M, they'll probably still have to find someone else to equal out the conference to 14 teams. That'll be somewhat difficult because there aren't a lot of teams that would want to subject their teams to the SEC's already brutal lineup of teams. Maybe someone like VaTech would take a chance but I'm not so sure they'd want to change conferences again so soon after just joining the ACC.

Well, the nice thing about it is that any school that joins the SEC immediately gets exposed to many excellent recruiting markets, and if they're coming from the Big XII, they're getting a much better TV deal out of it.

But even if those recruiting markets are somewhat opened up to a possible school like Missouri or VaTech, it'll still be a reach for them to pull recruits out of places like Louisiana, Florida, or Alabama since most recruits from there tend to stay close to home.
