This article indicates that LSU is paying for the attorney representing the four players being investigated. Is that true? If so isn't that an inappropriate use of state funds? This is a criminal investigation.

Originaly Fisher offered to rep the players Pro Bono as he is also a student attorney. The LSU compliance department was not comfortable with that and informed Mr. Fisher he would have to bill the players. Atleast thats what the LSU fans have heard and its stated in your link.

I would imagine that Fisher would bill them…run the situation by the NCAA to see if he could do it pro bono…if they come back as yes then the bill will be wiped off the books.

The NCAA rule says that an attorney can take a college athlete as a Pro Bono client if the attorney can show that he has done Pro Bono work in the past. With so much at stake this year LSU didn’t want to take any chances.

But to answer your question, the boys are getting the bill not the school.

I'm sure he has done pro bono work at least once before so it should be fine......I think it tip-toes the line on a benefit that a regular student would get but if that's the rule then I think the players won't be billed

He as actually done a lot of pro bono for LSU students and LSU athletes in the past. They are just worried because now they are on probation.

IIRC, the first article I read after the attorney got involved mentioned his past pro bono work with LSU students, not just athletes.

Isn't the rule that it's only an "extra benefit" if the athletes are extended a privilege that is unavailable to a member of the general student body?

Seems like that was the reason some of the specialties originally offered in the Duck locker rooms disappeared.

Off-Topic, but come to think of it, does Cal's Tosh Lupoi play X-Box with the general population, or just PSA'a?
