Mike Riley lifts suspensions

Post by uodux1212 »

Mike "the lunch pail" Riley lifted the suspensions of Castro Masaniai and tight end Connor Hamlett because of lack of depth.

Ummmm, what?!?
Starting defensive tackle Castro Masaniai and tight end Connor Hamlett will serve their one-game suspensions later in the season, OSU coach Mike Riley said Tuesday, because of injuries at their positions that have thinned the depth chart.

Unreal... if CK pulled this stunt he'd be getting LAMBASTED. Selective suspensions? Sure... too bad Cliff cant miss the Mizz St game instead of LSU

They are letting them play against sac state. Probably the team that you would most want your guys to miss. I understand the outrage but I don't exactly think this is a good thing for OSU.

Just shows the kind of message Chip is sending. He's not afraid to sit you
even in a big game to make his point. I think it makes more of an impression to
the team his way vs the way Riley is doing it even when team is having injury
problems. A lot of difference missing a sac state game vs an LSU game.

With the injury problems that OSU is having, I wouldn't be shocked if they weren't suspended until maybe the 3rd or 4th game.

Wow, this is amazing coming from a team where half of its fans hate another team more than they love their own. We would not hear the end of it from up north of Chip did this with, say, Cliff. If the Clown were consistent and didn't just hate Oregon, he'd write a scathing article about this, but we'll see.

He won't do it because a story about OSU doesn't get him hits like an Oregon one does.

If anything he will laud Riley for bumping the suspensions until the Wisconsin game...and do so just because he'll get 5000 comments from all the Ducks fans calling him an idiot. He won't care cause that story will get his page the most hits.

Starting to sound like Riley and Co are gonna have bigger problems than anticipated. If they're too thin to field a starting squad vs Sac St I shudder to think what Wisky is going to do them...

It wouldn't surprise me if they played against Wisconsin too.
Seriously though, if he can't sit players for Sacramento St. when is he planning on sitting them? Looks like trouble is brewing up in Corvallis...

Canzano wrote an article critical of Riley for this.

To me, I think it's fine (Riley's decision). To be honest, as long as these guys serve equal legal punishment as other citizens for illegal behavior and aren't breaking sports related rules, I don't need the hand of justice to extend through football teams.

It's irrational, imo. Most people wouldn't lose their jobs if they got a DUI. The idea that people emulate these crimes is hugely over-blown. The local high-school kid isn't going to say "Hey, I'm going to get drunk and drive because some Ducks players do it." They're going to get drunk anyway like lots of HS kids do, experimenting, lose their judgment and make dumb, macho decisions from there. Football not existing at all would probably have zero bearing on other kids doing the same stupid crap they do now. The media and fans should stop pretending that these punishments and "messages" are anything more than us patting each other on the backs.

If you guys remember in 2008 we were thin at linebacker and then Eddie Pleasant was suspended for the street racing. We had to pull the redshirts off of both Josh Kaddu and Dewitt Stuckey to fill the void that was left by Pleasant not playing against Washington State. I'm just not buying that as a valid excuse really. A suspension is a suspension, if you have to play a walk-on then so be it
