I know a lot of you fellow Duck fans have though Boise was a dirty team on the field in the past. Turns out Boise is also dirty off the field. Now they have lost 9 scholarships and have reduced practice times.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- The NCAA placed Boise State on probation for three years and imposed other sanctions Tuesday for major violations by the football program and other sports.
The sanctions included a public reprimand, a one-year postseason ban for women's tennis and recruiting restrictions and scholarship reductions for affected sports. Some of the penalties had previously been self-imposed by the university.
Under the sanctions, Boise State's football program will be able to offer nine fewer scholarships through the 2013-14 season. That's six fewer than Boise State's self-imposed sanctions announced earlier this year.
The football team will also be allowed fewer contact practices during spring training for three years.

Sucks for them but I doubt it really hurts them for long. They just have to keep their noses clean and they'll be fine in the MWC.

But the bigger issue might be that they have had three Dutch players who played all of last year, sidelined so far this year for some NCAA reason (if you recall, we went after one of them; Tjong-A-Tjoe. What makes this more interesting is that BSU, just let-go a Dutch team manager for undisclosed reasons yesterday. And the school also made a statement that BSU boosters need to be better educated about what is, and what is not acceptable. Very interesting.

Steering recruits towards BSU for a job in the BSU football dept perhaps? Influence?? Who really knows, but interesting.

Student-Manager With Dutch Ties Suspended

"While the University's violations case is over, the NCAA's investigation into Bronco football is not."

"Boise State has now suspended an offensive team manager, Floris Mendonca, originally from the Netherlands. Mendonca does have ties to the trio of suspended players, but Boise State would not elaborate on whether or not the suspensions are connection."

"According to a 2008 article from our friends at the Idaho Statesman, Mendonca attended a Broncos' football camp with suspended safety Cedric Febis in 2005. He then returned home to coach football in the Netherlands returning in 2008, bringing 10 players to a Broncos' football camp. "

"The school continues to keep out Febis, WR Geraldo Boldwijn, and DT Ricky Tjong-a-Tjoe while the NCAA investigates their eligibility. All three came from the Netherlands to play their final year of high school football in the Boise school district before enrolling at Boise State."

I did some research when Oregon was pursuing Tjong-a-tjoe, and thought some of the ethics involved looked a little fishy...

They were virtually all transfer students from the Netherlands to Boise area high schools, who attended BSU camps.

The Netherlands is a country widely known for its windmills, wooden clogs and world-renowned soccer players. But five Dutch athletes fueled by a love of football are attending Boise high schools this season, hoping to earn a college scholarship. Fellow countryman Cedric Febis did just that in 2005, when he played for Bishop Kelly High and became the 18th player in Boise State head coach Chris Petersen's first recruiting class.

"It's a dream for them to come over here and get the chance to earn a scholarship, " said Dutchman Floris Mendonca, who brought 10 players to the Boise State football camp this summer after he joined Febis at the camp in 2005. "If they stayed in Amsterdam, (college coaches) wouldn't see them. The most important thing for them is to have the chance to go out and fight for a scholarship. You never know what's going to happen."

Four of the players are seniors at Boise High - defensive linemen Donald Alves Fortes and Ricky Tjong-A-Tjoe, running back/defensive lineman Humphrey Koopmans and wide receiver/linebacker Jeffrey Bediako. Geraldo Hiwat is a wide receiver at Capital.

Capital coach Todd Simis and Boise coach Bob Clark said they met Mendonca at the BSU camp and heard rumors that some of the campers wanted to play high school football in Boise.

"The rest is history, " Simis said. "We met them and they were interested in making it happen. Floris was really instrumental in bringing these kids over and helping them through everything."

Meanwhile Ohio State is getting players reinstated who flat out took envelopes with cash from boosters this year.

Honestly, if Boise had a Canzano, this would be all over the college football world.
