Now that MB has stepped down, who do you want to see as the OC/QB coach for Oregon? Or will CK just call plays this year and look for a new coach next year?

Oregon has 17 days until spring practice to bring someone in and integrate them into the fold before fall. I hope Ryan Day is still available. Could a Ryan Day announcement be far behind?

I think Kelly will call the plays, at least this season.

That would be my guess. I just don't think there's enough time to bring in a new OC and get him ready for spring football and the season.

I would love for Day to come here but for now I would guess CK to handle the HC and OC duties! BTW if Day does come I would guess that he'd take the QB caoching job and an assist OC job!

I think that Kelly will continue to be the OC as the head coach. I do think that he'll hire at least one more person since there is an open spot on the staff. My bet is that he hires Day or someone from back east that Kelly knows very well.

I have a feeling that Kelly will call his own plays his first year and maybe even beyond that and then will start looking for a new OC to come in.

Ryan Day is a name to look for however if we do make a hire this off-season.

It will probably be fine. But, I'm a little anxious about how the dynamics might be a little different with Kelly being on the sideline rather than the booth where he is used to seeing the game unfold.

I think he will play OC for 2009......and possibly bring in a QB coach.....possibly.

Just to shake things up, what about former OS(Phew!) D coordinator and New Mexico HC, Rocky Long?

I know he was recently hired by SDSU as a D coordinator, but thanks to a couple of former and current PAC-10 assistants, the precedent for jumping ship so soon has been established quite nicely... And he doesn't have to come in as a D coach, does he?

I see Chip bringing in an Asst. OC & leaving it at that for at least this year. He will not give someone the full OC title until the guy proves himself, no matter who it is. He needs to nurture this person & really bring them along carefully.

Chip mentioned that Bellotti moving to AD leaves some big shoes to fill, but I believe even bigger shoes to fill are Chips. IMO, I would like to see him keep the play calling on his plate for perhaps 2 years and bring his successor along slowly. Those two years will take Masoli & Co. all the way to their Senior years. Chip also has to bring this guy in & start recruiting for 2011 because 2010 has technically already been started and with Chip calling the plays, it leaves that security blanket for those 2010 players that have given us the thumbs up for now.

In a nutshell, Chip calls plays for 2 years while bringing someone in this spring and grooming them. This also gives Chip the easier opportunity to dump a guy that's an Asst. OC if it's not working out. Less upheaval with the players as well as recruiting. Just my opinion!!

I have a feeling that he will continue to call the plays, but it might not be a bad idea for him to have an assistant OC in the booth where the other team's defense can be analyzed better than it can from the sidelines.

He did mention that he was bringing in not so much a new OC but at the very least a new Position Coach for offense now that we have an opening on the payroll.

After following Oklahoma State at the end of last year. then adding some of what coach MB has said. I think coach Kelly needs to have somebody with similar ideas very close to him come game time. Something has to give and you can't really delegate all of the public relations/donor/media ect. You can call the plays, but you need to have someone that is on the very same page to you in the box above. In my opinion he probably needs to start grooming his oc replacement as soon as possible. That is not saying he won't have a very large hand in everything offensive, I think he will have the largest hand in it. I think the trade off is he might spend less time than coach MB did on the defensive side of it. All that a side Oregon has been an offensive team for a very long time. I think Petey (his priorities) has his hands very deep in USC's defense as well. No doubt the offense/defense priority starts at the top. My real concern is if Kelly does like I believe he can. Will he turn down a 4 million dollar a year head coaching contract back east where recruiting would only be easier. He is a guy on the rise that "doesn't like losing" (national championships)? Part of me can almost see coach MB back here in a couple years if coach Kelly headed off to a perenial powerhouse school.
