New recruiting strategy
I think we really need to get started recruiting orphans. That way parents can't get in the way

There's not a ton of evidence this was his parents call. He sounded like UT was his first pick

Re: New recruiting strategy
Our recuriting will be fine if we contiune to have 9-10+ win season and include bowl win from '07 to 2-3 years later. If Oregon Ducks do all that, we will see a lot difference from Now to 2-3 years later and hopefully take crown away from USC.

The high-profile guys out east are proving nearly impossible to land....

Re: New recruiting strategy
No offense, but Kansas isn't hardly "out east" and we already have players from that area (Harper, Gaines and others) who are playing for us or will be next year. IMO I don't think it is time to give up recruiting the big names. We just need a couple more years of really good football to get us over the recruiting hump. Oh yea, and we have to hope that other athletes don't drink the Kiffen Kool-Aid or that year's equivalent. I thought that Brown would see Kiffen for who and what he is. I was wrong. Next time we may be more fortunate. Look at the bright side, at least Kiffen isn't our coach. He has made so many enemies in the short time he has been at UT that any small issue will not be forgotten or forgiven by other coaches in the SEC. He will be under a microscope and won't even know it until he says and does one too many stupid things.oreducks77 wrote:The high-profile guys out east are proving nearly impossible to land....

Re: New recruiting strategy
Recruiting Brown didn't hurt us in anyway. I don't understand why people want us to stop recruiting those kind of players. Is it just because you, yourself can't handle the dissapontment? Seriously, there is ZERO reason to stop recruiting players like Brown.

Re: New recruiting strategy
Very good point DT. Recruiting BB gave us a ton of free press at a great time of the year for high profile recruits. Yes I am disappointed we did not land him. It was also a boring time of the year anyway, like I was excited about Duck bball this year. Was I pissed off at noon today ,yes, FFing KIffen and Tenn, whatever. But there is no such thing as bad press and mostly this was all good. And good quotes about Chip Kelly floating out there on ESPN. Butler may make us feel glad he went elsewhere.

While we shouldn't stop recruiting these high profile guys from different parts of the country, there has been somewhat of a downside lately. This is now like the 5th time I have heard "Oregon's offense isn't the right fit" from big time recruits instead of being honest and saying it was distance, parents or something more believable. As a result, guys like Mcshay publish nonsense articles about Oregon not preparing players for the NFL. It's like a bad rumor spreading that isn't true. Oregon doesn't deserve to get a bad rap.

Mcshay said that because we've had a bad draft record with QBs, not because we aren't getting recruits.duckgrad99 wrote:While we shouldn't stop recruiting these high profile guys from different parts of the country, there has been somewhat of a downside lately. True. I guess what I'm trying to say is that when the whole nation(including possible future Oregon recruits) hears Bryce Brown saying he didn't go to Oregon because their style of offense doesn't prepare you for the NFL, I don't want people believing it and having it prevent Oregon from landing players. It's complete b.s. and I hope most people realize that.

Only the ones coached by Jeff Tedford.......Tray Dub wrote:Mcshay said that because we've had a bad draft record with QBs, not because we aren't getting recruits.duckgrad99 wrote:While we shouldn't stop recruiting these high profile guys from different parts of the country, there has been somewhat of a downside lately. No... Name one Oregon QB coached by anybody in the last ten years who has been a successful starter. Clemens is now looked at as a semi-bust (though I think it's too early to tell, but that's what Jets fans seem to think), Dixon's a third-stringer (again, too early, but still doesn't show that we can put QBs into starting roles on NFL teams), Leaf never came close.fpsduck wrote:Only the ones coached by Jeff Tedford.......Tray Dub wrote:Mcshay said that because we've had a bad draft record with QBs, not because we aren't getting recruits.duckgrad99 wrote:While we shouldn't stop recruiting these high profile guys from different parts of the country, there has been somewhat of a downside lately. When your best success story is a journeyman like AJ Feeley, you kinda lose the right to complain about Mcshay.
Sorry, this is kinda off topic. But we don't need a new recruiting strategy anyways. It's important to go after the top players. It's weird that now that we're actually getting close to landing a few of these guys, people are suddenly complaining about trying. I bet you a couple years ago before the Pryor thing ever began that nobody would suggest we not try to get a 5 star who was interested...

If you have a rivals account, BB has an interview with a rivals mod right after the announcement basically saying if the decision was up to him, he would have committed to Oregon a long time ago, but that his parents didn't want him going to Oregon.Tray Dub wrote:There's not a ton of evidence this was his parents call. Most college teams don't have successful starting qb's in the NFL.
