Reported to be at the top of the list according to this blurb in the RG.

...sources say the Cougars have former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach at the top of their list of possible replacements.

That would be so stupid for WSU. If Leach were to go there, he'd be there for 2 seasons and be gone for greener pastures, leaving the program back to where it was. I think it is important to remember that at WSU, you don't have any advantages other than being a member of the P12. I realize Wulff has had a rough time, but I'm trying to imagine someone else having been there and trying to imagine anyone else having success there seems silly to me. I am of the mindset that the coug's should give Wulff the benefit of the doubt, because if he can build that team up (and I certainly feel they've become a better team) to be successful, well, that is his dream job. And really, who the F would say that WSU is their dream job and actually mean it? At least with RR saying that that is his last HC job, you could see him at UA for 20 years. Who honestly expects Leach to stay in Pullman if this goes down? Bill Moos certainly couldn't say that, and that's why I think its stupid.

A pretty ballsy move. Wulff seems to be going about things the right way and heading in the right direction. Lubbock may be considered "rural" but it has nothing on Pullman. Who is to say that Leach will even be able to get guys for his system when isn't located in the state of Texas.

As far as his passing offense goes, WSU is a good fit for the QBs and WRs on roster since the coug's already have been having to pass the ball to win games for well over a decade. (I don't think I can recall their last 1,000 yd rusher, had to have been right after Gesser left and when Brink was there) While Leach is a big name and I think he could have decent, immediate success, to me the entire issue goes down to needing a long-term coach.

Of course he's at the top of their list along with Jimmy Johnson and Bill Belichick, doesn't mean he will take it. UCLA thinks they have a shot at Peterson or Cower. Everyone dreams when looking for a HC, just like we did going after every top coach in the country for basketball.

Be a great hire for WSU. He needs a starting out point again and they could offer that. Not really sure that Texas Tech, before he was there, was any better than WSU. WSU has some history of Rose Bowl appearances and it's a place that he can go to and be instantly worshiped without being overly criticized.
This conference might soon start to look like the MAC putting up 120 pts a game.

Huge difference in that Bill Moos is a professional AD who has actually run a coaching search, unlike Pat Kilkenny. As such you know he has a list of candidates, and with the situation at WSU has made inquiries to see who might be interested. If, as you imply, it is simply a wish list the first name would be a guy just a couple hundred miles away, Chris Peterson.

Not really. Moos may know how to run a better search, but as we found with PK, he made some awesome attempts and still ended up with a very solid hire. Trying to get a legitimate coach to come to Pullman. I stopped there for a reason. It's Pullman. Not Eugene, with Nike and our facilities. Oregon not having an experienced AD is not even close to the same disadvantage as Pullman.

Pullman.

As I've said earlier, there is a reason nobody stays there very long. It's not an attractive job, at all. They are at the bottom in facilities and by the time those improvements were made, Leach would have jumped to literally greener pastures. As for trying to argue about wish list, I agree that it is but only to the extent of available coaches. Moos knows he's not getting Petersen. He knows he has a long-shot at Leach but a long-shot at Leach is vastly different than no-shot with CP.

I read an article about Wulff and one of the reason why WSU likes him so much is because he's content with being there. They know they are not a premier program.

I think it would be sad to see them give up on Wulff at this point. He is a class act, is making progress, and needs a little more time.

Wow they only pay Wulff $600k a year? What can they get for that little?

They could get Nick Holt if he was willing to take a 50k pay cut.

It's literally his dream school and that is the primary reason I think WSU has to give him more time. Plus, with all the other openings going on (Just in the P12, which would leach prefer: wsu, asu, ucla?) it is even more unlikely that Leach would want to come in. Give the guy more time as next season looks like they should be a bowl ready team as it is so anybody coming in is going to be doing so with Wulff's guys.

I'd personally give Wulff one more season. If he can get them bowling next season, keep him.
