Citing a source close to the situation, CSNNW.com's Chris Haynes reports that Bower likely is the leading candidate right now because owner Paul Allen "is concerned with Morway's character and finds that he reminds him of a 'Kevin Pritchard 2.0' and DiLeo's lack of experience being in charge 'is worrisome.'"

However, there is a catch and a twist. The catch is that Allen likes his GM to be in good physical shape, which Bower is not. The twist is that multiple league sources have told Haynes that they don't think any of those three will end up with the job and that acting GM Chad Buchanan "has become an option again."

They still need to lock up a head coach, too. Per CSNNW.com's Chris Haynes, interim coach Caleb Canales "has come on as the favorite" to land the job.

"The thinking is," Haynes said, "if the Trail Blazers aren't going to be competing for a championship anytime soon and if they're going to hold on to their two lottery picks [No. 6 and No. 11], Canales, 34, is being viewed as 'the perfect guy' to take over the young Trail Blazer roster."

Despite liking Canales, the club still is expected to hold a search for their next coach. Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw and Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Malone are amongst the people who are interested in the position

So basically, Paul Allen is being Paul Allen and continuing to be the idiot billionaire. Who cares if the GM is fat turd, if he can run the team and put together a solid roster, then hire him. It's so frustrating being a Blazers fan with him as the owner. As for the coaching search, I like Canales but Brian Shaw should get a very serious look. He's going to be a very solid coach.

If you have a fat GM and want him in shape, build some incentives into the contract that you can assume will make that more attractive to the candidate.

Allen wants a GM that he has a connection with, and wants him to be fit. It's starting to sound kinda creepy.

Except KP lied to the front office(along with tom penn) about getting other offers and thus earning a raise based off those lies. Plus he totally whiffed on all the picks he was in charge of(started in 07) besides Batum. I believe he was like 1 for 9 in the draft

Has it been confirmed that KP was involved in that? I suspected that is what alienated Allen, just didn't know it was confirmed.

Dude traded the Baron Davis and his 1st rounder (which turned out to be #1 overall Kyrie Irving) for Mo WIlliams last year. If Stern doesn't screw the Lakers by denying the Chris Paul trade, then this dude is a dud. I will keep an open mind though.

This guy is a good GM.

Everyone knows about the Chris Paul trade, but he also acquired Eric Bledsoe during the draft, traded a 2nd round pick (2016?) for Nick Young, and signed Kenyon Martin.

The Clippers really blew it. He isn't a top 5 GM, but they finally had some stability in their front office. Just another case of Donald Sterling being extremely cheap.
