Met an influential USC booster today

Pretty much said what most of us expected - USC needs to win at least 10 games (before its bowl game) in order for Kiffiin to keep his job. Loved Pete Carroll. Said that Kiffin isn't very involved in the community and most of the boosters hate him. Said he has no personality (keep in mind that he's being compared to Pete Carroll, one of the most charismatic football coaches around).

Mentioned a couple of the usual suspects that USC could target - Mark Dantonio, Gary Patterson, etc.

He then mentioned someone else. Bob Stoops. Most believe that Stoops would never leave Oklahoma but he may be starting to get stale in Norman since he hasn't been winning the "big games" lately. Stoops comes across as being kind of a jackass but he's an outstanding coach and runs a clean program. I would hate to see USC end up with an elite coach like Stoops. Imagine what he would do at USC.

If I had to pick out of those three, Dantonio easily.

Del Rio was the third person to turn down USC last time they hired a head coach.

Kiffin sucks in so many aspects of life, he's a hard person to like with or without success.

Yeah and he turned down a team that was facing serious sanctions. That wouldn't be the case next time.

I remember when PC was at SC, I read a story where he was going out into Watts in the middle of the night to meet with underprivileged youth that had NOTHING to do with football. I've never read any story about Lame Kitten doing some humanitarian work or caring about anything but himself.

It's hard to not like Petey, in all honesty. He had his moments when he was easy to dislike but more often than not, he made USC a likable team. You see the way he coaches and it makes a lot more sense as to why all the recruits loved playing for him. Just a very laid back, fun loving guy. But I think it was the off the field work he did in inner LA that endeared him to a great many, more so than football. Football gave him the platform, but you could tell he really did care and it wasn't just some PR stunt. I really think Pete was what was good about the college game. Everyone rags on him about how he left USC, but lets be honest, USC got screwed on some bogus crap and I don't blame him for jumping ship. Getting hit that hard for what a coach should have known, while Ohio State gets off with a slap on the hand in comparison for what a coach did know and lied repeatedly about is a joke. Back to topic though...Kiffin is a stooge.

It's funny, I don't remember duck fans liking Carroll at all when he was with USC. He certainly seemed to dislike Bellotti. I don't remember anyone sticking up for USC when they got their sanctions either. I made a comment at the time that whether or not USC cheated in recruiting, you had to hand it to them, they didn't have to cheat on the field - they just had awesome players- and and bunch of people jumped on me about what big cheaters they were. It's amazing what a few years and a shift in the pecking order will do to one's perspective.

I grew up hating Washington and USC because they almost always beat the snot out of us. Now that we are in the midst of a winning period, it's funny how Trojan fans are more respectful, even likeable sometimes, like in Braveheart's case. Healthy mutual respect is more fun. On some level, I hope that USC is able to recover to a place where beating them actually means something. They have really regressed under Kiffen.

I liked PC and I enjoyed watching Leinart, Bush, White, Jarret, etc. play. Can't believe they lost to Vince Young + 21.

I think PC going to Seattle might have something to do with it as well. Although their are as many people on this board that hate the Seahawks as like them.

No one was defending USC at the time because it seemed a fairly just punishment. But in hindsight with all the other punishment's that were handed out after USC(tOSU, North Carolina, likely Miami, etc) USC got screwed in comparison.

At face value with what the NCAA was saying (the RB coach complicit with Bush receiving benefits from an agent), the punishment for crime seemed fair. Now, with more info, everyone sees it was BS. They got nailed for what a coach SHOULD have known. Just shows what a joke the NCAA is. Kind of like having to do an investigation into their investigation of Miami.

This. The punishment seemed fair at the time, but the NCAA screwed the pooch by not giving out harsher/just as harsh punishments to other schools that were probably just as deserving. Looking back on the other punishments that have been given out to other schools, USC definitely got screwed.

Then Kiffin came into town, that's just insult to injury right there.
