Rule #1: This uniform is illegal in NCAA Football.

I know a lot of fans, as well as announcers, complained about the lack of ability to read the numbers from the stands, but was this really a safety issue?

Boooooooooo.

I'm not sure how that is a "safety issue"

Do players usually look to see who's number it is before tackling that person?

lol that's a dumb rule. I'm sure it was more for the media than anything else.

BTW, I didn't like the result when we wore those, but those were some of my favorite uniforms of all time.

Targeting, or leading with the crown of the helmet into the opponent's head area, has been penalized for a number of years. But the disciplinary action has steepened. An automatic ejection occurs, plus a 15-yard penalty.
this rule is going to cause problems. I heard yesterday that they can challenge it to keep the player in the game, but the flag will stand no matter the outcome of the challenge.

If an injury is the only reason for a clock stoppage at the end of a half, the opponent may opt to take 10 seconds of the clock. The team with the injured player may call a timeout to prevent the 10 seconds from coming off of the clock.
this rule is also dumb

A team needs at least three seconds on the clock in order to spike the ball and play another down. The three-second minimum creates reasonable time for the additional play.
so is this one

Two players may never have the same jersey number during a game, and if a player intends on playing multiple positions with different jersey numbers, he must inform the referee who will announce the change.
Thanks Lane, you screwed it up for everyone else

I love vague rules " Uniform numbers and uniform color must clearly contrast each other, regardless of the bordering color."

So who decides what clearly contrasts? How do they decide when that 3 seconds happens? If the ball has been snapped at 3 to they blow it dead because you need 3.1 seconds to technically be accurate or is 2.9 acceptable? What if some players can spike the ball faster? Was a study done like in the NBA to see how long it takes to spike a ball?

I get the player safety rules about targeting and I'm all for player safety, but even as the board's unofficial concussion awareness poster, I'll tell you that Clowney's hit in the bowl game was fine and the entire onus cannot be on the defensive players when offensive players will occasionally dip their head to use as a battering ram (like goalline or short yardage situations).

Both the 3 second spike rule, and the 10 second injury rule are beyond stupid. Who comes up with this?

How silly to show an Oregon Ducks photo on the new injury 10 second rule. Really should be a picture of Cal.
