Head coach Ernie Kent announced that guard Kamyron Brown will transfer from the University of Oregon men's basketball program. Brown, from Anaheim, Calif., has two years of eligibility remaining.

"I sat down with Kamyron and we both agreed the best situation for him to continue his growth as a player would be in another basketball program," Kent said.

Brown played in 61 games for the Ducks, a starter in 13 of those outings. He averaged 4.4 points and 2.7 assists per game in two seasons at UO. Brown played as a true freshman and has a redshirt season available.

"We support him and wish him well," Kent said. "Kamyron will be allowed to continue working with our players, coaches and support staff through the end of the school year."

Not a surprise, at least to me. Is Armstead official yet? I wonder who will start at point guard? Sim? Porter? Armstead?

Sadly, I'm not surprised. Another Kent casualty IMO. A kid can't figure it out on himself within the first two years so he's gone. The worst part is our one upperclassman PG is now gone, pretty much right back to where we were. How many different times have guys, especially PGs, taken 2-3 years before they figure it out? Hope that JC guy is good.

Damn. There goes my pick for next year's breakout player.

Geez. That is horrible news. Now there are 0 PGs on this team.
1) Porter is a huge liability on the defensive side of the ball. Plus, is not very good at getting his teammates involved. Porter should be playing SG in a James Davis type role, not be a starting PG.
2) Sim looks to be more of a SG than a PG to me as well. He is a scorer, but is too slow and not a good enough ball handler to beat other Pac-10 PGs off the dribble. How many times was he picked clean last season?
Don't get me wrong. I like Porter and Sim, but the are both SHOOTING GUARDS in this offense. We better hope we land Armsted now, or it is going to be a VERY long season once again.

Huge mistake by EK not giving Brown significant minutes last season to work through some of his issues. He was the only player on the current roster capable of becoming a true PG.

This is bad, if we don't land Armstead or some insurance for the 09 class, we will have a rough year again. Sim and Porter are SGs in a Point Guards body.

Although I'm not too high on Brown, he at least had some PG skills. Landing Armstead is a must right now.

Just to shed some insight on how bad this is for Oregon right now:

Catron had 13 MORE assists and 13 LESS turnovers than Porter last season. That is unbelievable. Just to give you an idea of how bad that is: Darius Wright, an average Pac-10 PG, had 143 assists as a starter in 1999-2000. TP had 55 last season?? Seriously?? Yep, that's right, 55! Even Brown had 13 more assists then TP, and he played LESS than 1/2 the minutes that TP played last season.

I mean, Geez! Brooks had 56 assists as a freshman and only played half the year and had a half busted hand. Every other starting PG since 1999 is over 100 assists on the season.

I know Porter played both the 1 and the 2 last season, but do you really want to be forced to start him at the 1 for an entire season with those numbers?

This team is in seriuous trouble with that transfer! Armsted is a MUST now.

I am very pleased by this. Kamyron Brown was not dedicated to putting in the work to become the Ducks starting PG. This year, I and friends of mine saw Brown absolutely trashed at parties the night before some games. From a freshman, this would be somewhat understandable. Kamyron is a sophomore who had the opportunity to seize the starting PG position and blew it. I've met Kamyron and he's a nice guy, but he isn't mature enough to be a leader and that's what you typically expect from your starting PG.
