Athlete Greg Watson looking for Oregon offer

I would like the Ducks coaches to take these guys that are not as highly rated as other guys but love Oregon because it seems the Ducks swing and miss on the highly rated guys and then miss out on these guys that are high on the Ducks.
"Coach Osborne gave me a written offer back in February or March. He never did discuss the Oregon depth chart with me. I didn't verbally commit at that time. After that, they rescinded it because they only had one DB slot, which they gave to another recruit. When I went up to see the Oregon campus, they told me about the situation. I understand that this is a business. I understand what went down, but if Oregon offered me, I would accept. I still keep their written offer pinned to my bedroom wall," Watson pointed out.
The outstanding QB-CB went on to tell us how he feels about the Oregon program. "I love the Oregon program. I'm real good friends with Patrick Chung's little sister. I talk to Patrick quite a bit before he was drafted into the NFL. The players all like the Oregon coaches. I am close to Eugene, living in the Southern California area. My mom and dad have a big say in where I go to school. They have a 50-50 say in what college I go to. They put the football in my hand and I ran with it. The Oregon facilities are top notch. The weight room was amazing, and the trainer was there while I there," Watson said.

I interviewed this kid for DT, what an absolute NICE young man and his father was great too. I hope the best for him and if he has a solid senior season he will end up somewhere. I also interviewed him and found out about the "rescinded" offer, but felt it best not to do a story emphasizing on that. Rivals thought differently however.

Hopefully he has a good senior season and the Ducks offer him again..... it is players like him the Ducks need!

It's too bad about him not having an offer anymore. It just sucks that Oregon has so few scholarships for all of these players that are of good quality and really want to come to Oregon.

well, we will look stupid when/if all the "better" player's blow us off at the last second again and we dont end up with anybody. Then these kids like Watson end up at BSU and thrive!

Unfortunately position does play a role in recruiting as it seems we are getting a lot of love from defensive backs. Looking at stats only he seems to be quite the QB as well, I'm sure that is out of the question though. I don't envy the coach for having to inform this fine young man that he no longer had an offer, I'm sure tha was tough for everyone.

You know you never know......Oregon could have just filled a offer with a silent. Happens all the time.

I guess it is possible that he could get an offer after one of our recent departures.... Padilla. Newly opened scholies might mean another offer for him.

Re: Athlete Greg Watson looking for Oregon offer
It really isn't a big deal and it's done to thousands of kids every year. We offer tons of kids and it's a first come first served type of deal. Same with everywhere else. Everybody pulls offers when spots fill.jhopduck wrote:I interviewed this kid for DT, what an absolute NICE young man and his father was great too. I do feel bad for the kid and wish he was good enough to warrant getting that offer back and being a Duck if he really wants it. Unfortunately we can't take every kid that wants to be a Duck or we'd have a team of great guys that go 0-12 every year.
Also for anyone looking at his stats at QB that's a non-starter. He's being moved from QB his senior year of HS. That doesn't happen unless there are better QBs on his HS team....

For those wishing he had an offer, would you rather Watson or someone like Mathis or Stephenson?

I would rather have Mathis or Stephenson, but Watson would make a great backup plan, which I bet to the staff he is.tonyd wrote:For those wishing he had an offer, would you rather Watson or someone like Mathis or Stephenson?

Re: Athlete Greg Watson looking for Oregon offer
can you guarantee mathis or stephenson? Of course we would rather have them. There's a real good chance that they will go somewhere with more "tradition" or "closer to home." Then Watson is pissed we pulled on him and we get nobody. I'm glad im not a recruiter must be a stressful job.tonyd wrote:For those wishing he had an offer, would you rather Watson or someone like Mathis or Stephenson?

Re: Athlete Greg Watson looking for Oregon offer
These kids had their chance to commit, Mitchell beat them to it, and now the slots are very limited and we can be picky. There is no reason to settle for a recruit in July because you are "scared" we will end up with nothing in Feb, losers think that way.
