"Where's Mustain?"

Post by woundedknees »

"Mitch Mustain, who never figured in the quarterback competition, was conspicuously absent from Thursday's practice. He was "sick" and too ill to attend the workout."

If I had made the decision to walk away from a potential starting position such as Mustain had, and ended up potentially picking splinters for the rest of my collegiate career, I'd be feeling pretty nauseous, myself!

Coulda been a leader and potential high draft pick in the right situation... Now?

Who knows!

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this the year that he has to sit out?

According to Wikipedia:

"Mustain was one of the most highly decorated high school football players in history, winning every national player of the year award, and was recruited by nearly every major college football program in the United States during the 2005-2006 school year. He played sparingly in his first game at Arkansas, but was named the starting quarterback by the second game of the season and achieved a record of 8-0 as a true freshman starter."

Mustain started 8 games in 2006 at Arkansas, going 8-0, then sat out 2007, after transferring to USC. (He was listed as USC's, "Service Player of the Year for '07.)

In 2008, Mustain swapped back and forth for the #2 spot behind Mark Sanchez, with Aaron Corp.

I have always rooted for Mustain but the transfer to USC, that was his death knell!

With his skill set, I would have liked to see him at Oregon... Sans baggage.

I don't think he will ever see any meaningful playing time at USC unless he can drastically improve and beat out Corp andBarkley. If he doesn't, I don't see him surpassing them any time soon. I think he should never have transferred out since Nutt was on his way out and he would have had a much better time if he had stayed for Bobby Petrino's offense. Transferring to USC is almost career suicide since you have to beat out so many talented players year to year.
