I was listening to Isaac and Suke on 1080 the Fan tonight and they were talking about some personality traits/character type things regarding Fleck that I found interesting. In short, it sounds like he may possess some of the same immaturity/football bro traits that people love to trash guys like Sark and Kiffin about.
Just a few things they mentioned specifically:
Supposedly Fleck has a history of stepping out on his wife (with whom he has four kids) which resulted in a divorce and him then marrying his presumed mistress less than a year later. Rumors still swirl that he is still throwing his stick around even though he is remarried.
If you pull up to the WMU football facilities, you will find his corvette parked across the three closest parking spaces to the building. I laughed when they mentioned this but it came directly from someone who covers WMU today. Just kind of a douche move.
It's not uncommon for him to refer to himself in the third person, also a douche thing to do.
Lastly, his football bro factor wears on folks pretty quick and his success isn't helping it.
The whole point of their conversation was that he is the anti Helfrich when it comes personality, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but just something to be aware of. Curious how people think such a personality (assuming all is true) would play in Eugene and the PAC-12? Not trying to rag on the guy at all, just a few beers deep listening to their discussion.

Except Fleck doesn't own a Corvette and has been completely honest with any and everyone about what caused his divorce.

I don't know anything about all that, but imagine being 19 again and listening to this guy: https://youtu.be/IaT6K0RM76E . You're telling me that wouldn't inspire you? I think we all forget that these kids just left high school. To them, PJ is the coolest "adult" they have ever met.

Are you guys serious? The "bro factor"? You guys are taking to horrible sports talk host word, on some coach 2000 miles away. Two guys who despise UO athletics! Two of the biggest douches in Portland, right behind JC.

It probably will play just fine as long as he is winning.
If you think my disdain for Kiffy was his Joey Freshwater persona you're mistaken. I don't care much about peoples personal lives off the jobs if they aren't hurting other people or being hypocritical. Being around coaches since I was a little kid I know and expect a lot of them to be arrogant and smug. I always assumed Chip was a bit of a prick. I am not like some people who think it is a requirement of being a good coach but I do believe if you lined up a group of successful coaches the jerks assholes and arrogant pricks would be well represented.
My problem with Kiffen getting the Oregon job is first he was a crappy head coach at his last job. He was gifted a series of great jobs based on his father and mentors success yet was smarmy and smug without earning it. His exist from Tennessee was executed so classlessly that it made Todd Graham's look good by comparison. He now appears to be doing the same thing at Alabama to the Coach who resurrected his career. I have no doubt he would bolt from Oregon at the first opportunity and try to steal the silverware on his way out.
Yes Fleck or most hires may also bolt but with Kiffen I think he would bail for a nickel more and likely to do it messily.

Sounds like classic Isaac and Suke. What they really want is Oregon to be more like OSU; the seem to despise anything that's brash or in your face. They're still head over heals in love with Riley. Why? Because he was over the top nice to them and came on their show every week.
If Fleck is the guy and is really successful expect them and most of the Portland media to turn on him.
And as far as Fleck's shtick getting old goes, this is the first year he's been successful. If it was going to wear thin it would have during the 3 previous years.

If this is the personality we're getting, then I guess we'll have to adapt.
I feel mixed. I mean on the one hand, he's kind of an idiot. Watch the video and I think you'll see what I mean.
On the other hand though, I can get how this would be inspiring to some people. Like maybe 20-year-old college football players. And he did just finish an undefeated regular season tonight for Western Michigan, which is definitely no small achievement.
I guess where I end up is, I'd be hopeful about his hiring but not really happy. I wouldn't be surprised to see him lead us to some success. But I don't really respect him, not like I do any great coach.
Not an easy choice to make.

I've made my opinion abundantly clear and thanks for the post because I was starting to feel like I was the only one seeing these warning signs with Fleck. I sooo hope he's not the guy. He is an over-the-top arrogant cliché machine that is going to wear this Fanbase out before long. That said, if he is the guy, I'll cheer my brains no matter.

Dam now I see it. I was on board. The more I see I'm not sure. Our fan base is different. Not sure he would fit. But I will still root like crazy.

Let me start by saying, I haven't seen much of the guy. Watched the end of his game last night and a few videos on the net so I haven't formed any sort of opinion. With that being said, " He is an over-the-top arrogant cliché machine that is going to wear this Fanbase out before long", take that with a grain of salt because I remember people saying the same thing.......about Chip, and it was Husky and Beav fans saying it right after Chip whopped they're ass, AGAIN. So we don't really know yet.

As a Seahawks fan, Fleck reminds me of a hoped up on to much coffee Russell Wilson. People thought his stick was fake, and would wear on people, but all he does is win. People follow winners, and Fleck seems to genuinely care for his players, which is something that was lacking last season with out staff. A lot of fighting internally, John Neal pissed about being passed up twice for a job he felt was his. Long time coaches not meshing with Helfrich coaches. I think Fleck comes in and fixes a lot of issues pretty quickly.
Let's talk about cliches, all coaches use them.
Peterson loves to us OKG, our kind of guys.
Mac said a bunch before the game, all cheesy
People won't shut up about coach Gruden, he's a in your face cliche machine also. But with stupid facial expressions the entire time. It's part of coaching, keeping kids fired up.

I think he's pretty much a guy like Harbaugh, Saban, Chip, Danny Ainge, and allot of others. If he's on your team you love him. If he's on the other team you hate him.
