I read on one of the pay sites that George Uko may now be out of play. Can anyone confirm?

I would gladly send my kids to a school that has given blount chances before this all came about.. and took a stand when he clearly hit one of his own players. Somethings in life are just not acceptable behaviour.. this is a statement of what is.. and what isnt acceptable team behaviour. I still applaud the university for the actions they took.
That sucks. Oregon has to find a way to get some top DTs that can actually qualify. The freshman DTs we got this year were not the greatest and aren't ready to play. We are getting to overly reliant on JC transfers that take a year to develop and only produce for 1 year. If there was one position that I wish the coaches would recruit better at, it is DT.maxduck wrote:"I'm going to cancel my visit with Tennessee and Oklahoma and probably Oregon too," Uko said. Nothing sinister, he just had a great visit at Cal.

I don't see how punishing Blount severely will serve recruiting in any positive way. If anything, it will make people think that Kelly is not a "players coach" that protects his players interests, handling things "internally", etc.
Parents who think that the coaches allow thugs who beat up other players (which may not be the case with Blount, but it sure is his perception in the eyes of many) now don't think that. Oregon fans should know by now how important parents can be in recruiting.wheaton4prez wrote:How does it make logical sense to think that Blount's punishment will be applauded by recruits?

I understand that idea. But, is it true? Is that a fear that any parents really have? Even parents with kids considering Miami, did Brown's parents ever mention concern that it's a place where that is tolerated?fecta23 wrote:I think it will help qualm the parents fears that this is program where actions like his are tolerated.
Parents are important, for sure. I just don't think it's true that any of them are looking to make sure that the players get disciplined severely. Why would that benefit them to know that if their kid messes up, they can be sure that they will receive the harshest penalty?Tray Dub wrote:Parents who think that the coaches allow thugs who beat up other players (which may not be the case with Blount, but it sure is his perception in the eyes of many) now don't think that. True that life isn't always fair. In this case, I take it personally because this is the program I spend my time following and dollars supporting. If something isn't right, it's up to us to say or do something about, if for no other reason than to be sure that it doesn't happen that way again. For another example, any BSU fans interested in integrity and accountability should be calling for Hout to be punished, apologize and disclose what he said.huckthefuskies wrote:As a players and parents point of view the uni didn't reneg on the scholorship or even the facilitities. They are giving him a chance to succeed.
I like you wheat, but I think you are in the minority of the countries take on Blount and his punishment. He messed up and god willing he will come out of this stronger and better off. It might not be fair but sometimes even being drafted earlier to the wrong team can slow a player from showing his skills/value to the league (costing him millions on his overall carreer). If Blount is determined he can still reach his dreams regardless.
It's possible. I just don't see the reasoning for why it would.huckthefuskies wrote:Ps. am I the only one that feels Kelly has done/ put more effort into bonding with the recruits than their parents so far? Seems like the farther one heads east the more important parents will become... At some point convincing them might be more important than the recruit themselves... anyways just a thought
