So I was just strolling through the new 247 rankings only to find that our own Braxton B. has passed our old Ryan Kelley in the 247 recruit rankings. Now, I never really got why so many people got so lathered over Kelley in the first place. I mean, folks be handing kelley the Heisman and Natty trophy last summer. 5 star and sure fire NFL first rounder. :D But I must say I am surprised to see him fall so far in the rankings. I guess he was bad at camps. And not that impressive in all-star games. I'm glad the kid is not a Duck, but I think he'll be a quality college quarterback.

I was bummed when we lost Kelley but he hasn't impressed at all lately and looks like he hasn't improved.

Considering he'll be playing for Graham and he hasn't proven he can make ASU a conference title contender, I kinda doubt we'll have anything to worry about from both Kelley and Barnett.

I believed Yost would find better. I was only bummed because we were down to one or two commits at that point. And even then I was pretty sure Langi was flipping, so we didn't really have any recruits. Even with all the work Willie has been putting in, we're still 14 commits shy a full load. I can't believe how crazy it's going to be coming down the stretch. Looks like boom or bust to me.

If Oregon can get even half of the top-rated guys left on the board and then fills out the class with most of the potential backup and 3* recruits who'd commit, Taggart will likely pull in a top 20-25 class, with an outside chance at breaking the top-15 should they really strike it big.

Yeah, "boom or bust" is not an accurate choice of words by me. I just mean lot of back-up plan 3 stars and not taking as many kids vs. a nice haul of bigger names combined with a few 3 star back up guys. Here's kind of the bust scenario:

No Falo.
No added major defensive line help.
Local offensive line back-up plans only.
No added big-name running back.
No safeties who can come play right away.
No taller wide receiver.
No edge pass rusher.

Even then we'd have Rutger, Lenior, Redd, Graham, Popo & Scott, a couple very good linebacking prospects, and Felix and Verdell. Still would be a very nice class, but closer to a Helf class than what I'm hoping for.

Oregon has a lot of opportunities to move up the team rankings. While using 247Sports's class calculator, Oregon can move up to around 16-18 in 247Sports' team rankings should they get all those in Nemec's slideshow (Slade-Matautia, Gibson, Burch, Sear, Judson, Artis, and Lenoir) and Faoliu. Throw in a couple TEs and another LB, DB, OL, and WR and you see them possibly breaking the top 15, depending on how the schools above them do.

When Willlie got hired, I put the range of our final ranking between 18-22. Last year, Wisconsin took 26 players at an average rating of 85.02, and they finished 32. Right now we are at 87 player ranking with 14 prospects. If we take 26, as Wisconsin did, I would expect our average player rating to remain between 86-87. That would put us around 25th in the 2016 rankings. But that would mean we didn't really pull any big names. And we took fewer dudes than we had room for.

According to last year's final rankings, if we pulled all those 7 dudes in the Oregonian slide show plus added Josh Falo, we have around 22-23 recruits and would have finished around 23rd in the final ranking. Have to call that a win, but nothing to get too worked up about. Below a 25 ranking will kind of be a bust because we have so much room to take guys. Don't see that happening. I think we get inside the top 25 just on silent commits alone. The question is how many surprises can we pull off while not losing flips. I'm saying we hit 18th ranked class, which will be kind of awesome. But worse case scenario is probably around 25. That could happen if we wind up filling our class with a lot of .82 to .86 ranked dudes, which is still entirely possible.

As he should. Kelley has only marginally improved since his sophomore year. His high school team went 2-8 this year, which is a pretty bad look for a future D-1 quarterback.

He still has the size and athleticism to make a splash, but I wouldn't expect it until he's a junior-senior.

We just offered Jaxon Kirkland. Don't know how many last-minute back-up offers we're going to end up with. Coaches are working OT, but we're pretty late in the game. Fun and scary following recruiting down the stretch this year because for so many years we pretty much knew what our class was going to be. We probably know about 6-7 of our "silent commits", but there's about 10 other spots where I have no idea what's going to happen.
