Johnny Johnson III - Better than his rating

All, I'm not sure why this kid isn't higher ranked. Just saw his senior tape. I wasn't awed by his junior tape but there's a lot to like about this kid from his senior tape.
He runs incredibly good routes. Best route runner I've seen of our realistic targets. Catches well in traffic, good body control, good burst, good speed (not exceptional).Looks to be shorter than 6ft though. Really uses his hands well. Forget his rating, this kid is a great route receiver. He's not a huge breakaway threat once he catches the ball like some but the kid really gets open with his route running. Kind of a pleasant surprise after seeing his senior tape....

He kind of reminds me of Michael Rector from Stanford

I haven't really watched his film yet, but I've heard from two different people this week that he plays way better than his rating.

It's impressive for those that really understand route running and it's impact upon the qb, passing windows, etc. His route running is not only extremely consistent but really allows his qb to throw on-time. I'm actually very jazzed about this kid now after watching his film.
Love to hear any other insight one of you have on what you see on his tape.

Not only that, but he's built really well.

Yeah, I wasn't too impressed when he first committed, but I like his SR tape better than the tape I saw on McNeal, Judson, and Burch. So far, I'd say Taggart doesn't recruit WR as well as Helfrich's staff. Hopefully, a full year gives Taggart a better shot at other WRs next year, but I also think Taggart had enough time to warrant more expectation here. The depth chart isn't exactly teeming with bodies.

Kinda wished we would have landed one or two good tall (6'4) possession receivers.

Actually I was pretty surprised that Helf and Lubick didn't really have any receivers committed before they got canned. I mean, Thompson took Boise State over us, and the again chose Utah over us, and that other kid who chose the Beavers over us. The Ducks were really striking out with receivers during the full recruiting cycle. Helf and Lubick were at the point they were taking over-looked and underrated reaches out of Arizona...JJ.
