In State Recruiting

For all of you who jerk it to instate recruits please read this. Give me the best 100 guys. I could not give two shits if they come from Oregon or Timbuktu.

I have always looked at Oregons recruiting as you fill your class with the
very best players at positions of need no matter where they come from.
I understand the Lock up the state but it will never happen. You want to keep
the top plyers here and at Oregon. Just to many factors to keep them all.

U of O is at a severe disadvantage when it comes to recruiting. When a good year in state is 7 or 8 guys that can play D1 football that is a huge disadvantage. Plop the UofO in the middle of California, Texas or Florida that have hundreds of players each year and Taggart and crew would be even more formidable. When you can have hundreds of prospects jump in their car and do an unofficial visit on a whim that is a huge advantage. To take an unofficial to Oregon takes planning and big bucks if you're from out of state.

Now look who's made who laugh out loud in the morning! Pretty much my take as well.

I think we're more likely to find a recruit for Altman in Mali than for Tag!

That said, in state recruiting does matter for us, in the state of Cali. We can go nationally all we want, but we still have to maintain a strong presence down south.

The hot take approach the article takes assumes we haven't done due diligence with those players already. I'd say why was it that it was only attended by relatively weak teams? It's not like the big teams were there and you can just as easily make the case that we would be just another face in the crowd than standing out.

Thanks. My impression is that perhaps the main concern is not cultivating relationships with these Oregon HS coaches and potentially "alienating high school programs." A bigger picture concern rather than simply not seeing the prospects themselves at this event.

Also, teams are only allowed to go to 10 "showcase events" . Oregon had already scheduled its allotted amount before this one was put on the calendar. So in actually...they couldnt go. Even if they wanted. Might want to do some research Greenblood.

Oregon's coaches have also been going around the state and visiting various HS coaches and players so it's not like they haven't already started building relationships. Plus, they've also been traveling all over the US and making themselves known as the new faces of the Oregon program.

No, we don't care. First the best player wasn't even at it. Second we had committed to a much better camps months before they put that one together. Let OSU land crap abs from Lake O, I'll take studs from Florida everyday of the week over almost anyone from Oregon. I'd bet if you put King in the state of Oregon, he would dominate and be a borderline 5*. I get state pride I really do, but the more I've gone around and got a chance to watch other states HS games, the more I realize just how bad Oregon talent is.

Now I'm. It saying there isn't a reason to build relationships with the HS coaches, but not going to the Florida camp that they had committed to long before the NW thing, would have been really stupid and bad form. We signed 7 kids from Fl last year, that's double what we will sign in a year from Oregon.

Anyone with a brain that follows the new coaches and their ability to recruit can't honestly question what they've done since they arrived in Eugene. They put a focus on Oregon athletes that are of caliber and have put out a wide net nationally. They know how to play the modern recruiting game and are going to be hard to recruit against especially if they win games.

This staff is non stop recruiting and letting every in the world know about it. I would love to know who plans the logistics of all this travel, camps, meetings etc. I travel throughout Europe weekly for work and I don't cover nearly the amount of ground these guys cover. It's incredible. They are also building a pipeline of recruits that have been offered for classes 3 years away. They will have 3-4 years to build these bonds. If Oregon can keep all these coaches together for 1-2 cycles (meaning 4-5 years), this could be special. I am shocked at all the kids we're getting from FL. (Coach Woodie and Arroyo are machines!)
