I think that the weather played a big part in choosing between running and passing. There looked to be swirling winds and a heavy rain for most of the game. It's much easier to run the ball than it is to throw it in rain and wind.

Didn't seem like the wind was responsible for balls hitting the turf... There were a lot of bad passes thrown.

With 2 DBs and a big time DE in the stands, it may have been a great recruiting day!

Was the weather that bad? Watching from home, it looks to be squarely on Masoli's shoulders. But I know it's a whole different story when you're on the field.

No wind...It was just a bit wet..Nothing substantial....Crowd was quite active....I would think that this game might very well be an attraction to recruits, with the possible exception of a receiver...

We did beat a ranked team....and had we seen a better performance from Masoli, the game would have been very one-sided....
Masoli has this year and next year..Then its DT turn, if not before....I cant imagSine that anyone would think that Masoli is gonna be here forever....and lets face it, he was quite effective at the end of last year...So, who knows what is to follow as the season unfolds...It could get VERY interesting

I was at the game today & the wind did shift 15 degrees at times, but didn't feel super strong. However, I wasn't down on the field so I'm not sure what was going on there. I don't think the wind or the drizzle was a factor, it was definitely a tough day for the offense.

I have noticed that Masoli is not comfortable being a pocket passer and is not setting his feet right. Of course, I am not a coach, but just one thing I've noticed. We all have to remember that Masoli had great blocking last year and we have lots of new guys on the O line this year. Lots of high snaps today and that caused some big problems. I'm not making excuses for him because he is struggling right now. Helfrich had an interview on the radio after the game and mentioned that LaMichael James went to the wrong side a few times (he said it nicely) and the offense still has work to do.

Defense was absolutely phenomenal today! I was so happy Boyett got a pick. Eddie Pleasant is going to be a major beast for us for the next two years and Spencer Paysinger is top notch. Of course, Walter Thurmond is the cat's meow in my book.

They really need to work on the snapping because there were several snaps that were just awful. We got lucky on the one that sailed over Masoli's head that there was a penalty on Utah. It did seem as though Masoli was sort of taking his eyes off the snap on a couple of plays that led to some of the mishandles as well.

Really? I was watching it quickly, but I thought the did OK compared to usual Pac-10 officiating standards. I think they could have called a lot of ticky tack PI calls on WTIII (like they usually do), but they let them play.

What bugged me the most is when Utah would get away with letting the play clock run down and avoid a penalty because they said they called time out. I counted that at least 2 - 3 times. The refs also missed a play clock running down on Utah during the 1st qtr. I thought the crowd was going to string them up!! #8 on Utah was basically trying to start fights with Duck players & even punched one of our guys in the face after the Duck player got the best of him. Refs did nothing about him. Utah got several breaks from the refs today.

We did reap the benefits of a few calls against us or the Utes when the penalty ended up being less yards than what we lost during the play (i.e. high snap over Masoli's head down on the 20 and it would have been a huge loss, but the Utes were offsides, so it got called back).

To me, they let the DBs play real physical, which seemed to helped Jackson and Thurmond. I think that Thurmond was able to get away with a lot of his contact since he usually had turned his head toward the ball and played that instead of the receiver. The DB recruits at the game had to be impressed with not just Thurmond, but with all of the DBs that played today.

There were also a couple of horse collar tackles that Utah got away with (One in particular on LMJ comes to mind).

Ya i saw that, Espn replayed that twice i think and it show clearly #90 swing his left arm and hit one of ducks in the head/helemt.
