Contract Extension just announced for HC Helton. Right on top of signing day... hmmm coincidence? Probably hoping recruits will choose USC that are on the fence between them and another school?

If that was really the strategy you'd think they would have done it over the weekend. Just my opinion.picksix wrote:Contract Extension just announced for HC Helton. Rose Bowl victory and Pac-12 championship in his two years. What a no talent schmuck.DuckMastaFunk wrote:USC AD is so crazy. What has Helton proved besides the ability to under-perform with the best talent west of the Mississippi?
With the likely #1 pick QB and a roster full of NFL talent, getting waxed by Notre Dame and Ohio State (and losing to WSU along with needing double OT to beat a marginal Texas team is not impressive IMHO. It is mediocre. How do you think Helton would do with our roster?Duck24 wrote:Rose Bowl victory and Pac-12 championship in his two years. It doesn’t matter what he’d do with Oregon’s roster. He has had more success at USC than any coach not named Carroll this century. Do I think he’s the greatest coach ever, absolutely not. Would you not be happy with those results as a USC fan given the dumpster fire the program was before?DuckMastaFunk wrote:With the likely #1 pick QB and a roster full of NFL talent, getting waxed by Notre Dame and Ohio State (and losing to WSU along with needing double OT to beat a marginal Texas team is not impressive IMHO. I believe many USC fans want him fired because they want nattys. They still think they are in the Carroll era and expect those results on the field. Only in terms of recruiting they still are.Duck24 wrote:It doesn’t matter what he’d do with Oregon’s roster. He has had more success at USC than any coach not named Carroll this century. Also the only coach not named Carroll to have the reins without really being held back by sanctions.Duck24 wrote:It doesn’t matter what he’d do with Oregon’s roster. Those sanctions of losing 10 scholarships per a year really hurt them. But Oregon losing out on our recruits and our recruit's back ups and having to settle for the remaining players we never considered a few days before, resulted in us not hitting close to our 85 scholarship limit. Can't help but feel similar effect to a team being sanctioned with fewer scholarships. It amazes me how USC still got elite recruits and talent even when they were hit with scholarship sanctions and banned from bowl games.Handsome Dan wrote:Also the only coach not named Carroll to have the reins without really being held back by sanctions.Duck24 wrote:It doesn’t matter what he’d do with Oregon’s roster. It bothers me more how us appears to be "full" a week ago, and loads up on the apparent cream of Oregon remaining targets, and the coaches, as well as literally most of the experts, were oblivious.alxtw wrote:Those sanctions of losing 10 scholarships per a year really hurt them. Apparently they are at 90 scholarships todaycordy02c wrote:The lesson that needs to be learned is never believe Usc is full they find room for guys they want
They're going to announce a bunch of transfers and medical retirements between now and fall camp so they'll get under the limit barely.Duckenstein wrote:Apparently they are at 90 scholarships todaycordy02c wrote:The lesson that needs to be learned is never believe Usc is full they find room for guys they want
