Very good article, his dad is a fun guy to read about. Hopefully he gets lots of the other Mater Dei guys to join these two.

a few notes: Thursday, 9 p.m.: We meet with Mase (Funa) and his father, Charlie, at my in-laws' house in Duarte, Ca. Loaded everyone -- including my wife, Charlie, Keyon, Mase and my younger son, Kyron – in our Expedition rental, which was tight with the size of the boys, and took off for Eugene.

I started the drive thinking everyone would sleep. That did not happen due to the excitement of the trip.

We started talking immediately. Charlie and I have only talked at games, practices and a few times on the phone. So we got to know each other a little bit, mixing in my excitement for this trip and knowing what the future holds for this class.

I could feel it, and I knew Mase was going be a part of it – even if he did not know himself at that time.

Keyon and Mase are best friends, so they talked for a little bit before Kyron crashed.. That boy never lets an opportunity pass with getting sleep.

Meanwhile, I watched and scrolled through my Twitter feed, thinking about which players I want to hit up, already projecting starting lineups for the 2019 class. Imagining them beating USC and Washington, winning the Pac-12.

Being from Alabama and a lifelong fan with family ties to Alabama, I know what a National Championship team looks like. That is what I’m imagining building with all the top players I can get at. I know OREGON is the place the bring them all together along with Coach Mario Cristobal and staff.

Coach Mario and Joe (Salava'e) are not talked about enough. They are special, but at the same time I’ve had lengthy conversations with coach (Stephen) Field, Coach (Cort) Dennison, Coach (Donte) Williams, Coach (Keith) Heyward and Coach (Jim) Leavitt, just to name a few, and they are all amazing and personable.

I cannot express enough how much that mattered to us. Two schools in particular were so arrogant with their approach, which totally turned me off to them instantly. (Their problem, not ours. GO DUCKS!)

I again could not sleep, overwhelmingly excited about this trip, this class and the players who could join Keyon and be the start of something special. That is all I can think about! Then I am on Twitter, wishing I could speak to the Oregon fan base as a whole and just chat about this class and let them know how special it is going to be to give them the same excitement I have

Great read. I don't think the coaches and staff get enough credit for all of the thought and detail that goes into all of these visits.

No doubt. Very thankful to have the coaching staff we do, particularly when it comes to recruiting.
