#1 2020 Prospect, 5 * QB, planning visit to Oregon
https://www.oregonlive.com/recruiting/i ... iver_index
In the class of 2020, Oregon is targeting Rivals five-star quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, the nation's No. 1 overall prospect.
And the interest is mutual, as reported by Rivals and others.
The 6-foot-4, 235-pound signal-caller, out of St. John Bosco High School (Bellflower, California), indicated this week that he intends to visit Oregon this fall, and that his interest in the program remains high after the transition from Willie Taggart to Mario Cristobal.

2019 DT commit Sua'ava Poti is from there. Other than him, Oregon hasn't made a lot of inroads into that school. It's be nice to get in there like Oregon has with Mater Dei the past couple years.lukeyrid13 wrote:Do we have any other guys from that HS? It sounds familiar.

I think Uiagalelei has already been to Eugene twice now. This is basically a high school version of Ben Roethlisberger. He's looked like a grown man from the time he was in 8th grade. It would obviously be the biggest recruiting pull in school history.
A couple of issues with him:
* I'd be shocked if he goes anywhere except USC.
* He was projected to be an early or first round MLB draft pick. I read that he didn't play baseball this year, but he was an elite pitcher. I don't know if he'll go back to baseball, but we've seen elite HS QBs like Joe Maurer and Bubba Starling give up football for MLB money. Here's a quote from him from this spring: “I want to play both football and baseball in college. Whatever college lets me play both, that’s where I’ll go. If I do decide to go straight out of high school to the MLB then that’s another thing.”
* His dad, Big Dave, loves USC and is a major stage parent. He wants to be part of USC's network/family that they pitch. Wink wink. You know how Tua's dad got a sudden job offer in Tuscaloosa and moved the family there? He's that type of dad.

Isn't he the recruit where they were discussing a while back that mom and recruit are totally in love with Oregon, but dad and uncles were huge, life long USC fans?GoDucksTroll wrote:I think Uiagalelei has already been to Eugene twice now. That was 2019 DT Justin Tuitele. In the end, the only West Coast school in his top 5 was UW.alxtw wrote:Isn't he the recruit where they were discussing a while back that mom and recruit are totally in love with Oregon, but dad and uncles were huge, life long USC fans?GoDucksTroll wrote:I think Uiagalelei has already been to Eugene twice now. USC is likely going to get a commit from 2020 5* QB Bryce Young soon. If they do, DJ will not go there. We’re in a good spot for him.

I think as with most recruits, seeing what this staff does on the field this year will go a very long way in the decision. If Oregon looks like they are building a power house we have a legit shot

I like Feldman's prediction for the season, going 10-2 with losses to Stanford and Washington. If that does happen, recruits will take notice.
