Giles Jackson
Anyone know what’s going on here? I half expected him to commit by now.

... after cutting his list to a final four of Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State and USC in late June, Jackson is looking forward to cutting his list down to one.
"I would like to commit on my mom's birthday, August 24th," he said. "I don't have a leader."

Re: Giles Jackson
Some are saying that he's already given or is close to giving his verbal to one of his top schools and they'll either sit on it until then or he'll commit sooner than August 24th.

Re: Giles Jackson
Jackson is no longer committing next week. He was committing to us, but apparently we told him no more room on the ark.
We also turned down Darien Chase. As did Washington. They both waited for too long and lost their spots.
This means we’re feeling pretty good about getting another guy like Jameson Williams or Maybe even Kyle Ford. Ford is going to take an OV to Eugene. He’s also going to take one to Washington but for a scrub game like North Dakota or something. He’s still probably all USC but you gotta try.
Crazy times, turning away a physical freak like Jackson if that’s true.

Re: Giles Jackson
In past classes, players like Chase and Jackson would be headliners in this class but not, they might not have committable offers anymore. It's crazy that we're only a few years removed from taking anyone with a pulse to turning away 4* quality athletes.GoDucksTroll wrote:Jackson is no longer committing next week. Re: Giles Jackson
You have to believe Kyle Ford looks at the USC roster and sees freshman 5 star wide receiver Aman-Ra St. Brown, the favorite target and high school teammate of expected USC QB JT Daniels, and wonders how many balls would come his way the next couple years. Add Bru McCoy to the mix plus 4 star freshmen Tyler Vaughns and Devon Williams. Somebody won't be happy.GoDucksTroll wrote:Jackson is no longer committing next week. More bummed about Jackson than Chase, but teaches not only These guys, but future recruits that things get filled up quickly and not to mess around with recruiting too much.GoDucksTroll wrote:Jackson is no longer committing next week. Re: Giles Jackson
That’s a good point, it’s crazy to think how much USC has in the way of WR talent. Still wish we could have closed on Devon Williams. USC fans are saying he’s one of the standouts of their camp. Ford or McCoy would be incredible but I’ll always assume they’re USC bound until they sign an NLI.maxduck wrote:You have to believe Kyle Ford looks at the USC roster and sees freshman 5 star wide receiver Aman-Ra St. Brown, the favorite target and high school teammate of expected USC QB JT Daniels, and wonders how many balls would come his way the next couple years. Turning away a player like Giles Jackson (if that is how it plays out) is one of those things that could look very foolish a few years down the line. Hope this doesn't come back to haunt us.

The rumor I read said that Williams was also told to bark up another tree. Is it possible the ducks are only taking four? I can't imagine Ford will choose Oregon, or that the coaches are counting on that.GoDucksTroll wrote:Jackson is no longer committing next week. I'm not a fan of turning guys away. IF a high caliber guy like that wants to play at your school, then take him.

Re: Giles Jackson
Remember the staff has watched the freshmen receivers (including Addison) for the last couple weeks. Combine that evaluation with the improvement of Schooler and others perhaps they think receiving cupboard is quite as bare as they thought.

Re: Giles Jackson
Hindsight is 20/20. There are so many of these types of players. Vita Vea is another one. You can't do that to yourself. Trust that the Oregon Staff knows how to evaluate talent and choose what's best for the future. My hope is we add girth and speed on the DL. The WR class so far is INSANE. Another Slot/ RB is "apparently" a luxury while there are pressing needs.gogreen55 wrote:Turning away a player like Giles Jackson (if that is how it plays out) is one of those things that could look very foolish a few years down the line.
