QUACK! 3* OL Sagapolu commits

Oregon added to their already stellar class by getting the commitment of 3* OL Logan Sagapolu at the Polynesian Bowl. He's taking an LDS mission so he won't be on scholarship for another two years but rumors are he may only do a one-year mission, which is a new thing the church is supposedly trying out.

That is one large individual. Hope he’s still a Duck after that mission, or skips the mission.
I saw a video of him hitting the bench, and it was beyond impressive. Strong kid.

Not that it would never happen, but a 1-year mission is not a thing. There are people who have spread rumors about it, but it’s not actually a thing.

This November 2018 article appears to be more than a rumor.
Service missions, shorter terms of service, and the opportunity to still live at home. These are the main changes that will affect some missionaries of the Church of Geez Christ of Latter-day Saints, starting in January 2019, the church announced Friday.
The key word there is “some.” The church is still prioritizing the “proselyting” mission, which a majority of Mormon missionaries will apparently continue to serve. In that more traditional scenario, missionaries don’t know where in the world they’ll be sent, only that their service will last either 18 months (for young women) or two years (for young men).
Service missionaries, by contrast, may be assigned as little as six months as they work in charitable organizations and “church operations” in their local areas. They will continue to live at home under the care of their parents, while their local stake president, rather than the area’s mission president, is responsible for supervising them. Friday’s Mormon Newsroom announcement gave several examples of service missionaries who have participated in trial programs of this nature.

A service mission is not the same thing as as proselyting mission. Service missions are generally for people who are unable to do the workload of a two year mission due to developmental delays, disabilities, or other health issues.
He doesn’t fit the mold of a person who would go on a service mission.
If he’s saying he plans to go on a mission, assume two years. I could be wrong in assuming he’s not suffering from a disability where he would need to live at home.
So, yes, it’s a rumor.

X2, there is no such thing in the Latter Day Saints church as a one year mission. The Church is not going to adjust the mission rules for just one kid or because of the needs of one kid. He does not have to go, that's his choice, but if he goes it's two years unless he gets kicked out for behavior or health problems........ it's a rumor.

Unless he's back from Hawaii before fall camp starts in August, I doubt he'll be back for next season. It sounds more like he's returning home in October or November 2020.
