He's gonna be a Duck. No inside info, I'm just feeling it. With Coleman already commited I think we pull in all the top talent from the state in 2011.

My cousin actually splits time at QB for Liberty High School. And he's good friends with Colt Lyerla. In fact, word is Lyerla MIGHT transfer to Liberty.

Anyway, my cousin tells me he's basically all Oregon.

Colt, Brennan and Tyson will all most likely be high 4-5* guys and on the ESPNU 150. How sweet would it be to get all 3!!!! :) I love it that Tyson is recruiting those guys!

Not to doubt you UOducksTK1, but I live in Hillsboro currently. I went to Glencoe, & cover them for Oregonlive. Anyway I know for a fact that the school district is very strict about transfers, making said party jump through many levels of hoops. I am not saying it's not impossible, but unless his parents decided to move within the Liberty boundaries is the only way I would would ever imagine him playing for Liberty.

I'll look more into it, because it could very well be his family is moving. My cousin is good friends with Lyerla, so I'll trust his word. He told me Colt and his friend Dylan (Not sure who he is) are considering transferring to Liberty.

You may be right, so like I said, I'll see if I can find anymore truth in the rumor.

The video didnt show me very much...Appeared as though the entire thing was of intersquad scrimmage and was at partial speed....I am not familiar with the kid..What makes him special? Anyone have any stats on him? He looks well put together, but the video didnt show any great speed, good cuts, or for that matter any skill sets that would define his abilities as a player..

He's a stud. High 4 star or low 5 star. His a physical freak and plays like every position on his team.

The main reason he is so highly rated is based on his showings at various combines. For example, Colt put on quite a show at the National Underclassmen Combines held in Portland back in March. Here are his numbers from that combine:

Height: 6'6.5"
Weight: 219 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.63
Shuttle Run: 4.23
Bench Press: 27 reps @ 185 lbs.
Broad Jump: 10 feet 10 inches
Vertical Jump: 38.5 inches

It is pretty crazy for a young football player with his size and strength to have the explosiveness for that kind of vertical jump, assuming the testing was accurate. By comparison, the highest vertical on the current Oregon roster during winter testing was Anthony Gildon at 36.5 inches.

Some people that have seen Colt play say he is great combine warrrior, but not really a great football player. It is true those things don't always go hand in hand, but I have never seen him play in a game so I can't comment on that. You can't teach his natural combination of size, strength and athleticism though, so there is a lot of physical potential for the coaches to work with regardless.

The testing was done at NIKE/SPARQ combines, on more than one occasion. Those guys generally seem to be pretty accurate.

Colt apparently blew the combine staff away with his performances.

The Football SPARQ Testing will consist of:
· 40 Yard Dash
· 185 lb Bench Press
· Vertical Jump
· Shuttle

Here is an excerpt from an article posted on a VolNation Tennessee recruiting forum, concerning a Schuman's combine Lyerla attended:

"Who's that guy," asked one running back. Another replied, "I don't know but he is HUGE". As the events began and after a dynamic warm up by the Schuman's staff the story quickly unfolded. In the standing vertical jump a few competitors took reps and everyone was wowed by one young man who hit 34". Than Lyerla stepped up and you could sense the anticipation. But there was that mood and another athlete offered that "he is a big guy so don't expect to much". Lyerla took his first rep and was so far over the top of the sticks that they had to give him a redo after adjusting them. On his next rep Lyerla hit a 38.5" mark. "That is the highest vertical jump all year out of over 18,000 competitors," yelled an elated camp coach.

A roar went up over the crowd and the show was on. Rotating through the events Lyerla went on to take 3rd in the 40 with a solid 4.62, first in the Pro Agility shuttle with a 4.20, and he added 27 reps on the bench. But it was the broad jump that Lyerla impressed most with. The standing Broad Jump is perhaps one of the oldest drills we see at these events and yet one of the very best indicators of explosiveness. In order to succeed you must put several muscle groups into action at a split second.

So as Lyerla approached there was a sense that something big was about to happen. To hit 10 feet plus would be a major accomplishment and put him in the top group nationwide. So as Colt launched himself skyward and to a 10'7" distance the crowd and his competitors could only watch in sheer appreciation for what he had done. His second rep was even better. He hit a 10'10" mark. "Wow that was amazing," said the coach recording the scores. "Thanks," offered Lyerla running off for some water. Within about 3 minutes he was called back to the testing station by Camp Director Brad Vicarro.

"You have to go again. Colt you just broke the all time Schuman's record. You have to prove it" offered Vicarro "I need to see this". And so with little anticipation Lyerla came back and repped a 10'7", 10'10" and a 10'9" back to back. "It's a record," confirmed Vicarro. The camp went on and Lyerla proved why these physical traits are more than just for testing as he man handled his way to the camp MVP award."

I say you let the coaches start to mold him once he gets here and he'll be a good TE.
