Will he commit to the Ducks this week and will he qualify?

There aren't too many cornerbacks anywhere in the country better than Cliff Harris (Fresno, Calif./Edison). two schools top his list.

"USC and Oregon are the main ones for me," Harris said. "I also like Miami a lot, they were my childhood favorite and kind of a dream school for me growing up.

"I'm a West Coast guy though and I want to stay close to home. I still want to visit Miami but USC and Oregon are my top two right now."

Edison produces quality corners like no other school in the state and Harris is one of the best the program has ever had. He's a three-year starter for the Tigers and earned all-state underclass honors a year ago.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing what Oregon has to offer," Harris said. "I've heard so many good things and I like the coaches a lot. They have a good program and I like their defense. They play a lot of man coverage and that's my strength.

"With USC, what can you say, they just have a great program. I like the energy of the coaching staff and the competition they have among all the great players they recruit only makes you better."

He likes our defense huh. Let's just hope he hasn't seen much of USC's D

I think we are continuing to recruit him even though he may not qualify to show a loyalty and commitment if he does go JUCO to get him then.

Do we know if he would have to be a JUCO for two years or one?

He would be a hugeeee commitment because with our current CBs looking at the NFL, and for sure gone after next year, its always good just to get young faces in the system. You can never be too deep at CB.

I really really hope he qualifies.

Yeah, often times I think we all prefer the recruits on offense, but we could sure use a shutdown player on defense.

We need as much talent as we can get on D to make up for our lack of coaching back there. If we land him itll be one of the biggest recruits with the biggest impact for this class

Raz...If you don't qualify for D1 out of high school you need to spend 2 years in JC and get your transfer/associate degree. Only occasion where we get a 1 yr JC player, like Masoli, is when they qualify out of HS and go to JC on their own accord to improve D1 interest.

Can't you transfer with good grades? It was my understanding that if you get great grades after 1 year, you can transfer. Not common but can be done is what I heard. Any truth to it?

No. To qualify academically under NCAA standards you must acquire your associates degree (just like any person who generally attends a CC does) which generally takes 2 years to do.

Academic qualifers have to do at least 2 years at a JUCO before they can transfer. If Harris fails to qualify he'll be in the same situation Blount was after he failed to qualify at Auburn.
