QUACK! Daymon David commits

Ducks are trending for this safety prospect out of Maryland.
He's a really good looking prospect based on his junior film. This, however, might be the dumbest thing I've ever read. 247 is trying to say that the reason he will get a bump isn't because they rated him too low, but because he's sent in workout videos that show how much better he's gotten. (The real reason likely is because he only had a Boston College offer before, and now Oregon and Michigan are after him)

I saw the cb's yesterday and just read that article, ducks might get another diamond in the rough in the secondary. Important these young guys step up with lots of seniors opting out or to graduate after the season whenever it happens.

David is two spots away from being a four star in the composite and a four star on Rivals, so I wouldn’t call him a diamond in the rough. We could use another DB, and it’s always fun to get one from across the country that the rest of the country couldn’t even sniff.

He is likely a package with top 50 WR Donte Thornton. Both are trending green and yellow

Finished watching his highlights. Just a few thoughts.
- Great run-support instincts. Definitely more of a John Boyett / Brady Breeze type of safety, but much more slender build. He's 6'1, so playing at more than 190 lbs is probably plenty attainable.
- Solid nose for the football when it's in the air. He's not a natural free safety, but he does well to get himself in the area of the football where there's a chance to make a play.
- Probably 4.6-4.7 speed. Plenty sufficient for a strong safety.
- I really would have liked to have seen some highlights of him in coverage, locked in 1:1 with a receiver. Lacking those, you have to be conservative in your estimate of his skillset in that regard.
I think his rating of 88-89 is appropriate. Better prospect than current Oregon strong safety Nick Pickett. Very good pickup if the Ducks get him, IMO.

STU-- how do you compare him to USC's committed safeties? In the recent 247 re-shuffle, he's now higher rated than any of their current commits.

I was just looking at rivals player rankings and was marveling at how many top 150 guys have verbalized to Oregon. Then looked at low UCLA is ranked made me think of all the excuses we made for Chip Kelly like it was too hard to recruit to Eugene.

To be fair, it probably is difficult to recruit to Eugene, but chip made Oregon a national name, and now Oregon has some of the best recruiters in the country. It probably was much more difficult chips first few seasons.

Obviously chip thought he could too. Look at the players he brought in compared to before him. All I said is that it probably was more difficult
