On the heels of the Ducks losing 4* 2021 WR Kyron Ware-Hudson, they've made a new offer to 4* 2021 RB Byron Cardwell.

It would be nice to have a 3 down back, but it would also be nice to sign a legitimate DT in this class. It isn't fun watching our guys get blown off the ball every time the opponent runs the football.

We need an upgrade but that would be 7!!! scholarship RB's on the roster next year if no one transfers.

I interpreted it as they expect some early departures.

McGee is seen as an APB/slot receiver more than an every down back and Cardwell is viewed as an athlete who could end up as a RB or possibly on defense.

So, you're saying we need the next LMJ/Kenyon Barner/Royce Freeman/Jonathon Stewart clone... No problem!

Agreed, maybe these young RB's just aren't good in which case big time whiffs from the coaching staff, and if that's the case how can we trust these guys to recruit RB's? I am fine with Verdell playing (Except the fact that he's injury prone) but I certainly feel with how good Oregon has been recruiting we should see better than Dye and CHL.

Right... I forgot about McGee. Make that 8 then + Jayvaun/2 frosh. What sucks is that we'll be stuck with our 3 headed chihuahua for another 2 seasons since this year doesn't count. At this point I'm just waiting for them to graduate. This package is just a poor man's Chub/Swift combo. Dye is not very good. He's fine as a receiver out of the backfield but I'd imagine it's better to get an RB who can run and catch, not just catch (especially with limited roster spots elsewhere). Good teams will catch up to these gimmick plays quickly. Verdell is ok but he disappears in big games (Auburn/Wisconsin). His one good game in my memory was against an overrated Utah team last year...

On the bright side, we'll finally have the personnel to run the quadruple option - maybe that'll finally get our run game going.

Those RB's have played way more than 4 games in their careers.

On young running backs, Sean Dollars and Trey Benson, not getting any playing time: Cristobal talked about how they wish they could play more guys on offense. They were expecting to run 80 plays per game (that’s a pretty fast tempo) and have only been getting 65 per game. The games have also been closer than they should be, but he of course didn’t say that.

Am I the only one who likes Travis Dye? I didn’t after his first year, but he’s grown on me. He’s been really good this year:

Averaging 8 yards per carry this year. 33 totes for 265 yards. 3 catches for 119 and 3 TDs. He really looks faster, he’s not going to be a tackle breaker but he’s a great fit in this offense. I saw this stat the other day for Travis in the three Civil Wars he played in compared to Jermar Jefferson and CJ Verdell:

Travis Dye: 57 carries 383 yards

Jermar Jefferson: 70 carries 371 yards

CJ Verdell: 47 carries 273 yards

CJ is exactly what we’ve known him to be. You get a 45 yard rushing game from him as he winds up being run up the middle ad nauseam into the backs of OLs and under utilized on passes out of the backfield. He then gets hurt a couple of games and we don’t see him in the second half. Then every now and then he’ll have a 200 yard game on 10 yards per carry with a handful of chunk runs. CJ is a redshirt junior, wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he’s gone after this year.

Jayvaun Wilson is probably never going to play running back for us. He should have played LB to begin with. Wouldn’t surprise me if he transfers either.

We’ll see what happens with Dollars and Benson. Dollars has great change of direction but it was concerning when Mater Dei moved him to second RB after a few games for a kid that wasn’t a recruit level prospect. Lack of top end speed was the concern with him.

I watched this Cardwell kid’s HUDL. Running back highlights are usually pretty useless because they all look great. Every 3 star RB in college looks like Christian McCaffrey or Derrick Henry in high school. But if they like him and need another prototypical sized RB then he’s worth a spot.

You aren't alone. People made their judgment of him a few games into his career and have refused to budge since. He's been incredibly effective this year, but I still see people complain in the game threads that he's seeing too many carries. Not sure what more they expect the guy to do. He always played really well last year, so this isn't an aberration. He doesn't wear gloves though, so he can't be a top notch RB in people's minds.

It’s nice to know I’m not the only one on Travis Dye island.

The couple of notable fumbles and those plays where a strong wind knocks Travis down stick out in people’s minds and their judgment of him is effected by those plays. It hasn’t even been that many fumbles, although the two against Cal deep in their territory were costly.

Maybe the recruiting ranking is also playing a part in it. With Troy, who also wasn’t rated all that great, people overlooked it because from his first game he was the teams best player and Oregon fans are not used to good LBs like we are to RBs.

Here is a mind blowing stat that should make any college football fan love Travis:

In the 2018 class he was the 50th ranked running back. Out of the 49 ranked ahead of him here is how many have had more rushing yards: 2.

Texas’ Keontay Ingram and Oregon State’s Jermar Jefferson. Rutgers’ back Isaiah Wright also has 8 more yards, but considering he’s gotten 90 more carries I thought I’d leave him off. Texas’ is also only 200 yards ahead and he’s played in more games this year and has also gotten 70 more carries. Travis is also more productive as a receiver than everyone but Ingram, and that is also pretty close with a lot fewer reps.

Almost any other fan base would consider Travis Dye great, and people here think he sucks. Out of 31 games he’s played in he has 6 carries or fewer in 15 of them. In 11 games he’s gotten more than 10 carries he’s averaging 95 yards on 16 carries. For the sake of comparison CJ’s career average numbers are 15 for 82. Running backs needing a rhythm is not a new concept.

I didn’t realize it until looking earlier, but Dye has scored on all 3 of his receptions this year and is averaging 40 yds on those catches. Crazy numbers to go with the 8 yds/carry. So under appreciated. He’s been running hard this year too. He’s also only had 5 fumbles in his career, but people act like he coughs up the ball every game.
