Hearing he may be staying at LSU.

To be honest, he's nice to have, but not a must have. So I definitely wouldn't mind Oregon getting him, but guys like Kristian Williams and Ware-Hudson are capable of being the next guys.

I think he would have added a different element of size and speed to that position, but I hear you.

Kristian Williams has been making me feel better about the future of the interior DL. He and Dorlus (plus DJ James and Hill) were such great late additions to the class.

Ware-Hudson had by far his best game. If Jayson Jones and Afaese can play then I can stop complaining about needing more DTs.

I haven't rewatched yet but it seemed like the Duck DL benefitted from running a lot of guys out there keeping legs fresh (and getting a lot of the young guys good experience). From my eyes I noticed at least 10 guys the staff felt comfortable running out there (in a big/tight game):

Swinson is a big dude. He knocked down a pass on one play, when they did the replay he definitely passed the eye test !

This was the front seven I thought we would see all season that showed up last night. They played with their hair on fire from the first snap. They finally pressured a QB so that the DB’s weren’t having to cover forever.

I will be found posting on various game threads wondering where exactly this approach was. Love me some Avalos but was beginning to wonder why/when he was gonna' dial it up (an approach IMO is closer to how football generally has regularly played at the highest level). With the differences between college and pros, most college DC tend to error on the "risk adverse". I recall a good USA Today article this year (August 6, 2020) about pressure using different data sources (in the NFL). It would be interesting to see the same sort of analysis for college ball.

Hope to see it again, and will bitch much less if we lose playing aggressive rather than lose dropping 8 and playing soft coverage all day. Nothing wrong with mixing coverage up, but it works best when an opponent has reason to always be guessing IMO. It also plays to the strength of having two CBs (Lenoir, Wright) who absolutely battle (DJ James showing out a huge bonus). Like the "3-3-5" more against most offenses with a nickel CB rather than nickel S (which is why "dual" guys who can move between both spots like Holland and maybe Graham this year would have been so great).

I really hope that Oregon didn’t want him, because two strikeouts by Big Joe is not encouraging.

Why wouldn’t Oregon want him? There’s no good reason for Oregon to pass him up, yet another big miss for Big Joe.

That is my thinking. Unless there is some reason we don’t know of (behavioral, transfer issues, etc) not wanting Ika doesn’t make sense.

Joe isn't doing what he was brought here to do. I think Mario needs to look for a replacement.

But what if he is a big part of why we landed the Sewells, Funa, Kingsley Suamataia, and other Poly players?

I think that they need to explore what’s going on, but it’s not like Cristobal doesn’t see it. He’s having Bobby Williams recruiting the south to get guys like Kristian Williams and Jayson Jones. It seems Big Joe’s appeal to non Polynesian players is limited.

In terms of the on-field product, Big Joe has had 4 seasons at Oregon, right? And of those seasons, how many years did the DL disappoint? I'm not going to research stats, but this year seems like it was the first year where the DL didn't perform. That doesn't seem like that's reason to shop for someone new.
