I'm not sure that I understand why you recruit the top offensive line class in your school's history and then go after JuCos as fill-ins, but I guess we'll see.

Interesting especially with the seemingly high quality of OL in Washington leaning towards the Ducks and the low number of scholarships available this year.

Playing his high school ball at Sallis (Miss.) McAdams, Lewis enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast in the fall of 2020. As a senior in high school, Lewis finished his season with 54 solo tackles, 36 assists, three sacks, six quarterback hurries, five caused fumbles, and one rumble recovery.

Whatever that is, it sounds like a whole different level of defense!

Seriously, though, that's a whole different level of pancake!

This kid is massive. There has to be a reason AUBURN offered.

My first thought as well. Maybe they think he’s an under the radar gem they spotted when watching Jadarius Perkins. It could be that a JuCo makes sense for class balance. A fun Hudl to watch, not just because he’s massive and moves very well, he’s also got a violent punch. But it is surprising to be taking an unrated JuCo when OL recruit interest in the program is at an all time high.

Interesting tidbit from Lewis’ local paper in high school: Lewis was a two-way lineman for the Bulldogs, but was recruited by Gulf Coast to play defense. That is what he prefers. “I like to rush the quarterback,” he said.

McAdams coach Kenneth Nelson said it is a good fit for Lewis and for Gulf Coast. “He is a generational, once in a lifetime talent coming through a school such as McAdams. Many college coaches have said he is an NFL prototype. He was a dominant force for us and a big reason why we led our district in rushing defense. He is a plugger.”

That is interesting. Would make more sense as a D Line back up plan than an O Line guy.

Recruited by Mirabel - is that normal for a defensive player to be recruited by the O-line coach? I wonder if they just grabbed him and figured they would assign him to offense or defense later.

Main reason I could see them taking Lewis is they want some more experience when 2022 hits. Plus, they must really like his measurables and skillset.

We haven't had very good luck yet with these "extra massive" OL, although I hear good things about Ope Laloulu currently on the roster.

I would be beyond surprised if this massive human winds up playing defense. He’s too big to be a DL, there are only a handful of successful DL over 6’6” and they’re ones like DeFo, Armstead, and Calais Campbell - those are all freak athletes. Lewis’ high school defensive highlights consist of him plodding and occasionally falling into a ball carrier.

As for defensive linemen being recruited by offensive coaches, Gracen Halton’s main recruiter is Jim Mastro. Kristian Williams was Bobby Williams.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s used on the DL

I think a reason Mario might go after him is if he thinks he has NFL potential. Mario is trying to make the same type of Zoom call as Saban's leaked call.

I do like the notion of Penei getting drafted in Miami for the exposure for the program. I think Mario is going to stay here and have a lot of success and having Penei in his hometown will boost that. Having more guys reach the league along with team success boosts his recruiting abilities too.

I read that Percy is the top rated JUCO player this year... (but I can't find where I saw this... sorry)
