Did USC drop Jefferson?
Cathedral (Los Angeles) two-way standout Anthony Jefferson has had USC as one of his leaders for some time but said the Trojans have not been recruiting him as hard as some of his other favorites.
Jefferson, who Scouts Inc. projects as a college DB, has shown excellent versatility this season.
"He's a natural pass-catcher and was our best receiver last year, even over Randall [Carroll]," Phantoms coach Kevin Pearson said. "At the same time, he's a great cover corner and really shut down Robert Woods last year when we played Serra. He's just a great all around football player."
The Phantoms are currently 9-0 and Jefferson is having a big year. He has caught 41 balls for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns with three more scores rushing, two punt returns for touchdowns and a pick six on defense thrown in as well.
Cathedral will take on Serra (Gardena, Calif.), also 9-0, this weekend in a matchup of two of the top offensive football teams in the state.
"I'll be matched up with Woody (Robert Woods) again," Jefferson said. "It should be a great game. They have a lot of firepower with Woody, George Farmer and Paul Richardson but our team is playing well too so it should be a great game."
On the recruiting front, Jefferson has visited Cal and Oregon and said three schools stand out right now.
"I like USC, UCLA and Oregon," Jefferson said. "UCLA is recruiting me the hardest right now and I talk with Oregon a lot too but I kind of stopped hearing from SC. I'm not sure if they're slow playing me right now or what but it definitely seems like it.
"I haven't talked to them in awhile but I'm going to call them this week for sure and see what's up. As for my last visits, I'm looking at Notre Dame and Oklahoma and those will probably be after the season. I may visit UCLA officially too but I'm not sure because it's so close to home."
Sounds like UO and UCLA.
