Rowland was the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat's Player of the Year and a Div. V all-state pick after pumping in 25.5 ppg and 14.1 rpg for a 28-3 team that advanced to the CIF Div. V NorCal Regionals.

Sounds like a good get for the Ducks. Down to only one more scholarship since we're only losing 2 seniors. Wouldn't be surprised if the other scholarship is on hold for either Leslie or Jones.

I've seen this kid play a bunch of times (I'm originally from Sonoma Co and my parents still live in Healdsburg). Dude can play. I agree it seems like we're stockpiling SF talent, but I think he's in a little different mode than the others. When you watch him play he doesn't blow you away athletically, but he's extremely technical and very well coached for a small HS player. He's on a team that was able to beat schools that are approx 3x their size and do so fairly consistently.

Like TK said, we'll probably see this kid on the baseball field before the basketball court (not a knock on him necessarily, just an honest assessment of depth and IMO where his abilities will let him shine first). Definitely a solid pickup for us.

Very confusing. If he committed it seems like he would sign during the early period but today's RG reports..."Oregon isn’t expected to announce any recruits during the early period for letters of intent, which begins today."

Not sure I'm going to believe Yahoo on this one.

well rivals (now with yahoo) lists him as a solid verbal - the day before signing day. so it could be that he wasn't expected to commit until the later period, but decided to go ahead and make his verbal commitment. whether he signs today or not, we'll find out later, but he still could be a verbal commit who is waiting for the next signing period.

Kent didn't even mention the kid. He said, "Every guy we're looking at is in the top 15, top 20 in the country..." Could it be that Rowland is a baseball commit but they listed him in the basketball section? I know they have Terrence Mitchell (football commit) listed in the basketball commit section also.

Not saying it is impossible, just that it would be very strange for a kid to give a solid yes to a scholarship offer but then choose to wait six months before signing. It appears either the RG or Yahoo is wrong, and I think the Guard is a little closer to the program.

Time will tell.

i see what your saying, but i think the RG interviewed Ernie a day before Rowland "committed", so that verbal commit may not have been expected by Ernie, which is why he made that statement. i'm sure it'll all be cleared up pretty soon.

How does the scholarship thing work out? Can he play basketball on a baseball scholarship? I know if he played football then the football team has to use there scholarships.

someone told me that its whatever sport occurs first in the season. so basketball occurring before baseball would mean a bball scholarship according to him.

I believe the highest revenue sport is charged the scholarship. Not sure how they distinguish between fencing and lacrosse, but at Oregon football>basketball>track.
