If Uncle Phil is as dedicated as we think he is, he'll help make sure Wisconsin wins his services. ;)

Hah, if he was that dedicated then he should just make sure Oregon wins.

As many expected, Broussard is headed to Michigan State instead of Oregon. Getting either Jordan James or Andrew Paul is a must now.

After the improvement Camden has shown, this transfer is puzzling.

The kicker has got to be a walk-on, unless his two punts for 40 yards and one miss on one attempt is intriguing. Katleman left, you need backups and third stringers. Lewis redeemed himself, gotta give him credit. I don’t think this is connected to him leaving, at least I hope not.

Weird - article says he’s scholarship. I don’t get this. Also went to Oregon before transferring to Wazzu? I don’t remember him, but we’ve had a handful of walk-on kickers. I’m all for scholarship specialists, but he better be like San Diego State’s punter this past season.

New transfer add: DL Jordon Riley. From Nebraska. Via JuCo, where he transferred to from North Carolina after one year. Formerly a Tennessee commit. Class of 2017 recruit initially. 6’6” 330. Played in four games for Nebraska in 2021. Just seven career games. Our DL coach was obvious his coach at Nebraska and knows him, but this is also a puzzling move. I guess it’s just one year, and maybe someone is leaving or they needed another giant body.

If the coaches surveyed the field for DL this year and think they can do better next year, then taking a one-year grad-transfer at that position makes a lot of sense. The scholarship frees up next year, and they have that full year to recruit on more even footing.

Still, pretty sure this isn't the program-changing type of guy Lanning was on the phone with as he walked into the tunnel after winning the National Championship. Other than at DB, recruiting has been pretty disappointing so far under the new staff.

The game isn't over, but we ended '21 needing to shore up several gaps for '22, including a starting QB, DBs, WR, and an underclassman DL. A left tackle would be a very welcome addition, and so would a RB.

We got the underclassman DL. For a starting QB, we maybe got one in Bo Nix. No DBs. No WR. No OT. No RB. But we did get an upperclassman DL and a kicker.

To be totally honest, I'd say the progress report is something like a D at this point. Keeping Dollars but not keeping Dye, missing on Broussard, landing probably the 7th-10th best QB in the portal, and not filling the holes discussed is not particularly inspiring so far.

Early though! I recognize that.

Will check in again after Feb. 2nd (HS late signing day).

You said no DBs, Gonzalez (the transfer from Colo) is a safety.

The Dye thing is interesting however there are some who think that if Dye stayed and Broussard commited then Dollars would be gone so there may have been some behind the scenes stuff going on. Not saying I know for sure but guessing.

Agree that we have to wait and see what Wednesday brings.

You're right - I completely spaced on Gonzo. That is actually quite meaningful and I'd say probably makes the pick-ups a low C rather than a D.

Retaining Jalil Tucker was huge, and I also liked the addition of Khamari Terrell. It looks like Trejon Williams will be a Duck, and Florence is at least a 50/50 proposition. DB was by far the biggest immediate need, so I'm happy they spent so much time addressing it. I was hoping they could get Mekhi Blackmon as well - he seemed like a tailor-made answer to the immediate need for veteran depth, but I haven't seen any evidence that they were even interested in him. I just wish they were winning some of the top end recruiting battles that they are clearly losing. I also wish they had waited on the quarterback transfer signing.

I'm interested in the perceived lack at WR. It's true that we didn't get the studs that were originally in the class, but aren't the 'three skinnies' pretty good prospects? Lowe seems like a pretty good fall-back option, and I like that he is a local kid.

There's just not a lot of depth at WR behind the "three skinnies" as there's only a total of like 7-8 scholarship WRs on the roster.
