He wanted to visit the weekend before signing day, but we couldn't let him because we didn't have a coach yet. If we had signed Lanning even 1 day prior, we would have locked him up.

Nah I doubt that. If he really was interested after MC left he could've just waited to sign.

Having TMac’s high school teammates, TE Burnett and QB Fifita, is something we should have done. Burnett is better than any TE we have on the roster from day one and Fifita is 5’10” but at least he can throw a football which none of our 6’5” QBs are able to - apparently.
Jimmy Dougherty, the WRs coach we fired after he was passed out drunk in Willie Taggart’s OC hire’s car, managed to close the deal. I’m sure Bryan McClendon’s counter pitch of “have you seen Miami?” was convincing, but overcoming the allure of winning 1-3 games each season was too much to overcome.

Got to give the Arizona staff credit. They didn't stop selling/convincing Tmac that playing with his buddies is a once in a life time experience and perennial 1-11 seasons will still get him drafted high because he has all the individual tools and doesn't need team success. They and their fans need to buy Mario a very nice Christmas present because none of this would be possible if Mario was still at Oregon. Hahaha.

You're usually pretty rational, but I think this last week has you in a tailspin. haha.
The TE room is pretty loaded. Sure, I guess if Burnett was interested, he would have been a better option than Dollar, but we have no idea what happened with that recruitment. For all we know, they reached out and he wasn't interesting in going to a TE room with that much depth. There's much more to playing QB than the ability to throw the ball. Fifita made no sense at the time, because they had Bailey already committed. I think it's a big leap to say that the QBs aren't able to throw. There's much more to playing QB than just being able to throw the ball. Our QBs also looked great in high school (and still have the potential to be great in college), so Fifita being able to throw in high school means nothing.
We don't know what the best choice is for McMillan apart from strictly looking at it from a football standpoint (but there's more that goes into a kid's decisions than wins/losses). Shoot, Georgia, FSU, etc. lost out on the number 1 recruit in the nation to an FCS school. Crazy stuff happens in recruiting all the time. Expecting a staff with no prior relationship with a kid to close him in the course of 3 days is wildly unrealistic, and by all accounts McMillan just wanted his recruitment to be over with. Not much you can do. If Arizona ends up not working out for him, maybe they can snag him on the flipside.
